    Default The "Jumping Off Point"

Hi again guys, two flights today, the first was the new Curtiss-Reid Mk.III and now the Basler Turbo-Dak! Every year an outfit based in Calgary,Ab.Canada,Ken Borek Air,ferries aircraft all the way down to Antarctia to supply all the different bases and research facilities down there. KBA is the largest operator of DHC Twin Otters in the world and their fleet also flys a few of these Basler BT-67/DC-3 Turbine conversions. After the long flight south they end up in Punta Arenas,Chile before taking that last 860nm. hop to Base Marambio. This is the hop from Chile to Antarctica.

Fantastic pictures Gary! I have to say, that water looks bone-chillin' frigid.
