Thread: VFR Ireland East/West Coast problem

  1. Default VFR Ireland East/West Coast problem

    Hi,

I've just installed the amazing VFR Ireland scenery, but the coastlines are not right.

The oceans seem to be climbing up the cliff faces or dipping into cavities and hollows.

Can any one help me resolve this issue.

There are some real world amazing cliffs around the Irish coast, but they all seem a bit too flat with this water problem.

    Thanks all

BTW - when I was installing, both discs said: Default Scenery Not Disabled. Not sure what it meant, but I just continued the install.

"Default Scenery Not Disabled" - could be as simple as unchecking something in the scenery library or as complex as finding and renaming particular files in the default folders; usually required to remove default roads, rivers, coasts, etc. (this could be the cause of your coastline issue). Check all documentation for notes on this; if there's nothing there, go to the developer's website.

Also check the documentation to see if they specify a particular mesh for the area; if not, search for mesh of Ireland or UK ...you may have to try a couple to find the best fit for that scenery.

    Hi,

The scenery comes complete with a 19m mesh all built into it. The scenery looks amazing, but the coastlines are out. I had a similar issue with VFR Eng/Wales many years back and cant recall the solution!!!

Hope someone is able to assist.

BTW - Nothing in the docs.

"Ultimate Terrain USA and Canada" corrected all my FS 2004 Land, Coast lines, Railways, Waterways, and Roads, Scenery for the USA and Canada
Made my FS 2004 accurately represent the realistic view of Google Satellite imagery!
Made a World of difference to all my USA Scenery!

Maybe "Ultimate Terrain Europe" will do the same?

    Paul...FS 2004...FS Nav......!

P.S.: Water creeping up the slopes is a common "problem?", and is due to using different Meshes. No easy way out of that!......!

UT can cause as many problems as it alleviates. I have an ongoing project correcting coasts, not just oceans but rivers and lakes across the US; but the improvements UT makes are worth it.

In FS 2004, for 19m mesh you could try setting TERRAIN_MAX_VERTEX_LEVEL=21 (in FS9.cfg)
Don't know what the corresponding thing is in FSX - probably Terrain Mesh Complexity. I have FSX but don't really use it.

    Hi,

There wasnt any mention that a PDF manual was available; found it by chance on the disc. They have a list of BGLs that list the default ones which I will try and turn off - I'll keep you posted to see how it goes.

Everything is set correctly there. The BGLs are also disabled.

I had another look and right now it seems that in my testing, only the Aran Islands are affected by this. The other coasts update and look okay.
