Thread: Partial Solution to Aircraft Movement on Idle Throttle

  1. Talking Partial Solution to Aircraft Movement on Idle Throttle

    Hi,

Some time ago I and several other users had issues with the aircraft edging forward even when the brakes were locked full on and throttle was in idle.

Most civil jets have the engines turned off during pre flight checks, and this is the perfect solution to the gate issue - just keep the engines turned off until pushing back or when ready to start taxi (CTRL+E).

This is still an issue however when waiting at the runway threshold for a lot of planes to land before you get take off clearance.

Hope this was of some use.

This has been an issue with numerous aircraft, both piston and jet; it's irritating to run up the engines to get oil pressure and temperature up only to have the airplane start creeping forward. I bribed the mechanics to install better brakes on the recalcitrant aircraft (i.e. edit the aircraft.cfg).

My Dash8 is too excitable - even in idle it speeds off on its own; take offs with that aircraft are extremely short!

    Thanks!

Sounds like either the weight is too low or the engine power too high in the aircraft.cfg; if, at altitude, you achieve cruise at very low throttle settings try lowering the engine power_scalar or the propeller thrust_scalar.

Where did you get this Dash8 from? Is it the default Dash8, which is an AI, to which you have added a download to make it flyable?

    Steve from Mudgee.

    Hi,

    Thanks for all your replies.

I think I may have totally resolved the issue.

It seems to be with the joystick settings.

When I set the throttle slider sensitivity all the way to the right, and the null zone full left, the plane remained stationary!

In fact, all my jets stopped rolling forward with full brakes set.

Of course they will edge forward when the brakes are released, but not in the way they did before - when the Dash8 jetted off at high speed.

One thing I did note was when the throttle was at idle, the F1 button still nudged the onscreen throttle back a few more pixels. This did not cause too much problems as I can still hit reverse thrust at joystick idle.

    Thanks again
