Thread: Help with prepar3d please!

    Smile Help with prepar3d please!

Hello guys! I had Prepar3d running wonderfully. I replaced motherboard and a larger SSD drive, I reinstalled the os (win7-64) and I copied back everything, but, I forgot to copy the old windows registry with the Prepar3d entry in it. so now when I start Prepar3d it wants me to re-activate it. I contacted the folks at Lockheed and they told that (to avoid reinstall) all I need is to make a string in the registry to let it know that I already have Prepar3d in the computer. I would prefer Not to reinstall from scratch cause I had updated it with lots of add ons etc. and it worked fantastic.

So my question is, would anyone who owns prepar3d be so kind as to take a screenshot of their registry clearly showing the complete string in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE...etc.. so that I can recreate the string in my registry please? I would also need the "value" (the end of the string on the right side pane).

I really appreciate any help, it would save me several days of reisntalling everything.

    thank you. mark governali.

Can't Lockheed Martin provide that information?

Given the Prepar3d is licenced, asking for a copy of someone else's installation information seems a little dubious and may nor even work.

You are going to be much better off with a re-install.
    Thanks,

Agree. Your to far gone to recover anything and for reliabilty, a clean install would be to your advantage.

Hello Guys, thank you for the replies but I see there is some misunderstanding. First, I do not see any point in wasting any time even mentioning "piracy", Lockheed already verified that I own the program and they even issued another installation ID for me, to allow for the new MB and HD info. Then they told me that the error message I was getting was due to a missing string in the registry which tells Prepar3d that it has been installed, this was lost as I mentioned when I reinstalled the os. Third, there is no danger whatsoever that you would be giving me "your" info because all that the registry string tells Prepar3d is the install location and version, nothing else. They did tell me what I needed to do but then when I asked "how" they said that they are not supposed to give support via direct email but I should go to the forums there and aske there. Since some of you guys own the program, I thought I ask here first. The reson why I wanted to take this shortcut was because I already had all fsgenesis addons and several airports and planes, Ut and all, it worked like I said fantastic.
    thank you, for any help.
    mark.
p.s. I have tool (as I am sure most of you do too) that re-registers the .EXE automatecally in the registry, but as you know it only works with fs9 and fsx. EUREKA MOMENT!!! I thought of it just now as I typed this LOL. I might be able to temporarily rename the exe to fsx.exe, re-register it in the registry and then rename the exe back and the entry in the registry to prepar3d. it should work!!!

Wont work, the registry entry will be saved in the FSX registry folder. I think.

Talk about reinventing the wheel - just go to the Prepar3D forum and ask! They will give you the registry key you need and be done with it. I doubt you renaming method will work AND may put invalid stuff in your registry, which could cause you even bigger problems. Either reinstall or ask in the P3d support forum.

Exactly - why didn't you follow Lockheed Martin's advice? You'd probabably have had the solution by now!
