    Default Building new pc , old graphics card advice needed

    Hi , I have taken the plunge as my old rig has become very dissapointing , I have a gaming bundle coming from ocuk , asus p8z77 Mobo , i7 3770k ivy bridge clocked by them to 4.5 ghz , 16 gig corsair dominator 1600 ram + a good cooler , though I'm tempted to use my corsair h70 water cooler, I am hoping that my powercolour 5870 will work on this set up without any issues , has anyone tried an older card on this new platform? , I really don't want to change my gpu just yet , any advice appreciated thanks.

    It will work, but now the graphics card will be the bottleneck.
    Thanks,

    Ok , thanks . I want to change to NVIDIA in the future anyway , just can't afford a new gpu as well at the moment, that's why I was hoping my old one would work.

    The grahics card might hurt your performance but it should be fine till your able to upgrade it as a good CPU does not work well with a bad. Grahics card.

    A Radeon 5870 is a very decent graphics card. Depending on the game it's usually performs better than a GeForce GTX 560 Ti. I certainly wouldn't be in any rush to replace it.

    Well it produced a really good picture with my photo scenery on my old system . I think the chip set or CPU started to degrade hence the major upgrades , I bought a 240 gig ssd today , so op system will go on ssd with a few other programs & fsx will go on the 600 gig vrap. Getting excited now , I will switch it on tomorrow for the first time & install win 7 64 bit ultimate.

    That big of an SSD will easily accomodate Windows and FSX both. That is all I would put on that.
    When your FSX install needs more room, such as photo scenery, the vrap will hold that.

    I have moved my airplanes folder(19.2GB now, rest in E:\Hanger) and segregated AI Aircraft to a different drive, because, once they load into memory a fast drive isn't necessary. That allows me to keep some of my more intense scenery on my "too small" 128GB SSD.

    FSX.cfg:
    [Main]
    ...
    SimObjectPaths.0=E:\FSX_Airplanes
    SimObjectPaths.1=SimObjects\Rotorcraft
    SimObjectPaths.2=SimObjects\GroundVehicles
    SimObjectPaths.3=SimObjects\Boats
    SimObjectPaths.4=SimObjects\Animals
    SimObjectPaths.5=SimObjects\Misc
    SimObjectPaths.6=E:\AI_Aircraft

    As fast as your rig is, stuttering on scenery texture loads should be minimal anyhow, but every little bit helps...Don

    Would be good to have fsx on ssd but I want hawx 2 , lock on flaming cliffs & bms falcon on it & I'm not sure how much space they will occupy. I also have all UK photo scenery & treescapes to go in , all of the orbx scenery for north America, a stack of add on aircraft , traffic x , accufeel, fs extreme fsx pc , ssd seems a little small for all that.
