    Default Which processor ?

I have been reading with interest the posts on here about PC specs for FSX.

In the next month or two I hope to biuld a new computer. The primary aim of this upgrade will be to run FSX better.

As such which one of these processors is best for FSX ?

    1) AMD FX-4 4170 Black Edition 4 Core 4.2GHz
    2) Intel Core i7 3770 3.4GHz Socket 1155 8MB Cache (Ivybridge)

Is is just about the "Ghz" or is there more to it than that ?

INTEL I7 is best. It's easy to overclock to 4 Ghz. or so I understand and FSX doesn't respond well to multicore processors like AMD.

Don't quote me, but this is what I've read on this site! Personally I'm waiting for a 10 GHZ. Processor with at least 1/2 terabyte Super speed RAM. I know, don't hold my breath!

Can anyone else hear that Turkey sandwich calling me??

The AMD is running out of the box at 4.2 and I see where users are already above 5 with it. So how is that better than 4?

The I7 is multicore also, so it's a wash there.
    Thanks,

    Jim

If I really wanted FSX to perform at it's best......I'd go for at least SOMETHING with an I7 processor, not necessarily the Alienware model.

I was using this as a model so poolep could see that Pentiums can be clocked to to and past that AMD multicore jobber.

i7 hands down.. Gigahertz means nothing when your memory to cache link is operating at half the speed.

If the i7 is overclocked to within a couple hundred MHz of the AMD CPU, the Intel will easily be the better processor. AMD's latest generation really isn't suited to gaming.

The i5 2500K is also a VERY solid processor.
