Thread: How to get Better FPS in FSX

  1. Default How to get Better FPS in FSX

    Hello all!
I have recently began to check how well my system runs FSX and have noticed my FPS is not all that great. I can average 10-12 fps on the ground at KLAX during the evening with a thunderstorm and am looking to get more. My computer specs can be found here: http://support.apple.com/kb/SP619 . I am open to any suggestions. I have my setting on medium for most options if needed and do not wish to lower them.
    Thank you for your time!
    Sean

That's about the best you are going to get using a Mac with a built in graphics chip. You need a Windows desktop computer running closer to 4GHz.
    Thanks,

You can make it a little better by modifying the .cfg file here is a guide

There are a few duff tweaks in that compilation.

...And...Before you go making edits of your FSX.cfg, know exactly what the edit is supposed to do.
If you don't see the intended result, return it to it's original state. Cumulative duff edits can be detrimental.

I agree with Jim, a built in graphics chip can't be modified (that I know of) and is running full power all the time. I'm no expert here, but if it's running at full power 24/7 then it's not easily going to be able to handle all the power FSX needs.
That's why so many of us are running custom built rigs with nVidia cards. Ours are able to provide all the juice needed to smoothly run FSX. It's costly though. Very costly.

The issue, is the 13 in Mac Book Pro (MBP) should have never been called a "Pro".

Of all the MBP's, it's the only one without a dedicated video chip. It uses the integrated Intel HD Graphics 3000 that's built into the chip set, and uses shared memory. The other MBP's of your generation use two video chips. The one you have when on battery power, and a dedicated chip, like the Radeon HD 6750M with 1 Gig of dedicated DDR5 ram when plugged into the wall.

FSX will run extremely well on a Mac... just not your mac, I am sorry to say.

Thank you to all who replied. I think I know a little more about my computer than I used to because of all your replies. I stumbled appon a fix a couple nights ago (http://www.venetubo.com/fsx.html) when looking through my ARTCC's forum and deciced to try it out. I filled in the info and made a backup of the fsx.cfg, and then tried it out in the same location where I was getting 10-12 fps. It worked! I am not getting 15-30 (20 average) in the outside view, in the VC 30, 2D 30-60.

Also make sure that you have the service packs installed. They improve the overall performance (not sure if this will have an impact on a MBP though...).
