Thread: Newbie would like to know if this stuff is good enough for FSX

  1. Default Newbie would like to know if this stuff is good enough for FSX

I am new to the Forum. Would like to know if the following is good enough for FSX or newest version for just keeping my skills up on a 1967 Piper Cherokee 180 with IFR panel including Garmin 430, STEC 30 with GSS. Our LLC has a 1967 Piper Cherokee 180. I would like to keep my skills up without burning gas. I will be getting my instrument rating in the future. Have my PPL and Commercial rating and about 1000hrs.

My son's ITT guy came up with the following:

    AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition Deneb 3.4GHz Socket AM3 125W Quad-Core Processor HDZ965FBGMBOX

ASUS M5A97 AM3+ AMD 970 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard with UEFI BIOS

    G.SKILL Value Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10600) Desktop Memory Model F3-10600CL9D-8GBNT

Crucial M4 CT064M4SSD2 2.5" 64GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

SAMSUNG EcoGreen F4 HD204UI 2TB 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive

    SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 6870 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card (100314-3L )

OCZ ModXStream Pro 600W Modular High Performance Power Supply compatible with Intel Sandybridge Core i3 i5 i7 and AMD Phenom

    Thanks

I would go with an Intel i5 or i7 processor as well as a Nvidia GTX550 or higher. FSX runs best on Intel and Nvidia But if you do not plan on running PMDG caliber products and things like REX, UTX or GEX, you should be fine with what you have!

I'll 2nd jonathan999 on the Intel processor. I've read a lot of threads about processors and they all say that FSX does not respond well to the multicore ones.

The i5 and i7 are both quad core processors. Fsx with the service packs will use the extra cores for scenery processing.
