Maybe you think repaints should always be free. And lots of talented people do share their work for free, bless them all. But there's no "should be" rule that says it's got to be freely donated. If I want a specific repaint, want it sooner rather than later, and I got the $$$, absolutely nothing wrong with me or anyone else entering into an agreement with someone to pay for the work to be done.

I thought that if it's for a freeware model (which this of course isn't) then it would be illegal to pay for it. Doesn't that count as profiting from someone else's work?

If money changes hands then permission needs to be obtained from the copyright holder of the livery/logos and royalties may be due.

Unless you have made the paint-kit yourself from scratch, then the person who did the original paint kit needs to give permission and receive a royalty.

Payment raises a lot of issues.

Anyhow, this is a freeware forum

The terms and conditions of use of the majority of freeware models specifically prohibit paying for repaints.

Repaints for some payware again depend on the terms and conditions of use issued by the developer. You may have to ask the developer's permission in some cases.

For both types, users should read these conditions before they start asking for repaints.

Repaints without permission, where needed, do indeed break copyright law and and could lead to cease and desist orders being issued.

And this forum isn't just for freeware, although users/pilots stand a better chance of getting a painter to repaint a freeware model than a payware one.

    Regards to all.

When I mention this being a freeware forum I mean the request are for free work.

I'm not saying the request should only be for freeware aircraft.

That is, a repaint for a payware aircraft is freeware as it is not being charged for.
