Thread: Just Hovering Around

  1. Default Just Hovering Around

When you go sightseeing, do you zip around at maximum speed? Have you ever tried to slow down? With most fixed wing aircraft your minimum (not including jets) speed is around 110 knots… The ultra lights will fly at slower speeds, 30 knots with out stalling… But have you ever tried it at 5 knots? Or 0 knots and just sit there and hover? Then you really get to see the scenery, and you can enjoy your investment of all the time, money and effort you have taken to build your simulated world to the point where it is… Here is my favorite aircraft to see the sights the Bell 206B in green and white paint scheme… At Walter Sutton Farm, Amboy, WA (WA79) by ORBX … Flying nowhere just at and around the farm, average speed 5-10 knots, with shorts burst of speed up to 40 knots (WOW, NOW THAT’S FAST!!! Just kidding!!!) Enjoy…

You can watch the flight on the Flight Video Forum titled “Slow Ride” or after the screenshots here on this page…

Very nice screens! My problem is that I never, ever managed to land a helicopter. I always end up crashing!

Overgrown coffee grinders! Nice shots! I'm a copter crasher too! I'll stick to fixed-wing for FSX and fly my battery-powered plastic helo in the house.

Nice set of shots. Absolutely the best way to appreciate ORBX scenery. I'm still not entirely comfortable with helos.
I can land them safely (most of the time) but putting one down exactly where I want is still an iffy proposition. — Bob

Great set David, helicopters are the only way to get a good look at all the details in the scenery!

Speaking of scenery, the Antarctica scenery is from Aerosoft,Antarctica X and it's on sale right now at PCAviator.com "Deal of the Day" thing for $20.00 USD and that includes their Twotter on skis. It's a large download at 7.35 Gb. or for an extra $3.95 they will ship the disc to you.Well worth the price imo!

    Thumbs up

    Awesome shots Sam...Absolutely AWESOME!

When I was a copter pilot in Nam, we used to call the fixed-winged pilots "Sissy-Pilots"....It was all in fun back in those days & no harm was intended. When it comes to copters, I think Harry Reasoner defined it best; "An airplane by its nature wants to fly, and if not interfered with too strongly by unusual events, or by a deliberately incompetent pilot, it will fly.

A helicopter does not want to fly. It is maintained in the air by a variety of forces and controls working in opposition to each other, and if there is any disturbance in this delicate balance, the helicopter stops flying immediately & disastrously. There is no such thing as a gliding helicopter."
