Thread: 777 plane for 2004 or fsx?

  1. Default 777 plane for 2004 or fsx?

    Hello everyone,

Has anybody installed the Emirates 777 (file 777200lrdet.zip) in FS2004? It is in the file library for FS2004, but the readme references FSX only. I installed it in FS2004 and it seems to work ok but the views are just a bit odd. The virtual cockpit screen is only half a window for example. And other views using the POV switch on my yoke shows inconsistent interior views which I would rather change to wing views. But the first thing is knowing which version of FS this plane can or will work in.

I have done a lot of searching for answers about using FSX planes in FS2004 and believe the answer is no. Some planes are made for either version, and listed as such, but if made for only FSX they will not work in FS2004?

FSX native aircraft are not compatible with FS9, but most FS9 aircraft will work, to varying degrees, in FSX (there may be issues with gauges, animations, etc. but they will fly). Aircraft designed for both are a compromise, usually FS9 aircraft tweaked to perform well in FSX (often with separate air and cfg files for each sim).

From what I've read, a sure sign you have an FSX only aircraft is multiple mdl files in the model folder; but these aircraft typically won't even appear in FS9 beyond the text listing in "create a flight". Your problem sounds like cfg errors involving views used in FSX that aren't recognized by FS9. I would first contact the aircraft's designer.

    jgf,

Thank You for the informative reply. Even though this aircraft does only have 1 mdl file, the aircraft.cfg does have cameradefinition entries that I know are unique to FSX only. I totally agree with you about the cfg errors involving views. I think the description of the aircraft is incorrect therefore flightsim (and other sites) have it in the wrong section. I will contact the designer for clarification. It's such a nice aircraft I wish I could fly it but I'm on FS2004.

    Thanks again for the response!!

Not to fire a shot across your bows, but many of the IRIS jet fighters specifically for FS9 install with multiple model files. The different models are for different configurations of external stores - missiles and fuel tanks. They are all selectable, and indeed do display and fly with those different load-outs. Whether that conflicts with what you said, which I'm guessing would apply (mainly) to airliners, which of course would not have such things, is beyond me.

Have you tried searching the library for a 'proper' fs9 Emirates 777?
Bound to be one I would have thought.
Either old Posky as was, or new Sky Spirit as is, should have what you want.

but not "multiple mdl files in the model folder"; numerous FS9 aircraft have multiple model folders, but each contains a single mdl file

Pug, yes I have found other 777's. It's not the "Emirates" that I'm really interested in but the aircraft I mentioned has flight dynamics made by Douglas E. Trapp which I thought would be something different from the Posky/Sky Spirit aircraft. I have emailed Mr. Trapp in hopes he can shed some light on this.
