I had been doing that with no success (thanks Grover149 for the response.) But simmerdr you da doc! Thx for taking so much time. You helped me figure it out (I hope). I printed your menu and followed as closely as possible, but was noticing anomalies in the sense that the plane wouldn't hold the altitude set in the AP and there was fluctuation around VS=0 even with the ALT set and throttle steady. I know from experience this shouldn't happen, especially with no weather. Sure enough, on the turn around (and thx for pointing out that the AP can actually do a 180 on a localizer - I thought common wisdom says that's a no-no), following all the steps, the GS came down slowly, seemed to hold about 10 seconds after the ALT light went out, then continued down while I tried desperately with throttle and trim to try to recapture it. Basically, it was the same problem I've been having. So I landed and thought things through. (Dangerous ) Checking my (Saitek X52) controller calibration interface, I noticed the wheel I use for trim was not centered. I also remembered that I've not been calibrating the HI (D key) even though I was the altimeter (B key). So I did these both while repeating the exercise with the Cesna, and it worked perfectly! Rock stable and -600 on the VS after GS capture. So then I repeated with the Baron and same thing: rock steady on altitude until GS capture. I'm not sure which of those two parameters, if not both, were implicated, but thanks for forcing me to focus more on it.

Anyway, here was a case where a beginner (the personage of myself ) was doing the stuff that many beginners forget (Nav/GPS to Nav, proper frequency, stay below GS, etc.), yet still had issues. Rather embarrassing, but hope it helps someone else. Thanks again to you very helpful people.
