Thread: File Difficulties.

  1. Unhappy File Difficulties.

so earlier today i decided to re-install FSX and have a crack at troubleshooting a problem which i have had for months.

    flashback...

so i believe i was installing a new aircraft onto the game. at some point (not sure when) i opened the game and i had found what i believed was corrupted files, as many of my aircraft were missing. i re-installed the game however the same problem arose. i tried a lot of things to see if FSX would go back to its original state. nothing worked so i gave up.

    present day

I searched the files to notice that an entire copy of the games files were inside the 737 aircraft folder. i had also noticed that the files in Microsoft Flight Simulator X there was only 4 planes, and no other folders or files. (there was a duplicate so technically there was 2 games in one FSX folder.) simply put, in Simobjects/airplanes/B737_800 there was another copy of the game.
i tried to fix it by copying the contents of the 737 folder, deleted everything and pasted the game into the FSX folder. but the problem is still present.

i worry that the files on the disc have been replaced. which i find impossible. however that, and saved data on the Laptop is the only reasons i can think of.

    i've hit too many dead ends now, i'm checking the disc files right now and any extra information is here;

    System properties:
    Hp Pavilion dv9700 notebook PC
    processor: AMD turion(tm) 64x2 mobile technology TL-60 2.00 GHz
    RAM is 2 GB
and its a 32-bit operating system.
    Windows Vista

any way possible just to restore the files to default.
thank you very much for the help.

EDIT: i've checked the developers forum but i cant see anything useful to me

Put your DVD #1 in your drive and do a Repair install.

No repair in the world is going to fix your dilemma if your file structure is that wacked. You best start over and probably will have to manually remove some files. If I were you I wouldn't install FSX in your programs files. Create a seperate folder on your C drive. Name it Flight Simulator X and install FSX to it. Then you eliminate all that UAC crap when installing FSX or addons.

    Oh a laptop. Nevermind

    GPU: EVGA GTX 680 OC

First I would completly un-install FSX,then run the free program "CCleaner" available at sites like CNet.com, defrag the hard drive and make sure all remanents of the first install are gone. Then make a folder outside the standard "program files",you can call it C:/FSX or what ever you like, install FSX and point the installer to the new folder's location.Follow NickN's set up guide and you should be back in business....

i followed it to every last detail, but nothing seemed to work.
i noticed a thread about multiple screens on vista having problems. i'm using a separate monitor (TV) but not both screens.
i didn't know what the problem was with it so i'm not sure if its related or not.

    EDIT: wow.
i don't really know what to say..
the show all variations box was unticked. everything is fine.
    stupidity detected.

You may need a "software license reset tool" from Microsoft. This has worked for me but may need a few attempts.
