Thread: FSX Kollsman only reads inHg

  1. Default FSX Kollsman only reads inHg

    Can anyone in this section help with a thread I started elsewhere on this forum?

    Basically I cannot get my Kollsman to read in metric.

    The original thread is here: http://www.flightsim.com/vbfs/showth...id-not-working

    Thanks.

    Steve.

    It's probably the Altimeter itself. Without specially coded switches to select inHg vs mBar it will only display one.
    Usually inHg. There may be altimeters out there that have the switch.

    If one isn't available custom Altimeter with a Hybrid QNH/Kohlsman display could be made to switch the reading itself between inHg and mBar depending on the mode selected.

    Here's an untested example of just the two elements:

    Code:
    <Element id="inHg Digits">
      <Visible>(P:Units of measure, enum) 0 == (A:CIRCUIT GENERAL PANEL ON, bool) and
      </Visible>
        <Position X="72" Y="246" />
         <Text Bright="yes"
           X="64" Y="22"
           Fixed="no"
           Length="5"
           Font="Arial"
           Color="white"
           Adjust="Center"
           VerticalAdjust="Center">
         <String>%((A:Kohlsman setting hg,inHg) )%!2.2f!</String>
        </Text>
    </Element>
    <Element id="mBar Digits">
      <Visible>(P:Units of measure, enum) 1 >= (A:CIRCUIT GENERAL PANEL ON, bool) and
      </Visible>
        <Position X="72" Y="246" />
         <Text Bright="yes"
           X="64" Y="22"
           Fixed="no"
           Length="4"
           Font="Arial"
           Color="white"
           Adjust="Center"
           VerticalAdjust="Center">
         <String>%((A:Kohlsman setting MB,MB) )%!d!</String>
        </Text>
    </Element>
    The "Visible" tags would switch the two readouts according to (P:Units of measure, enum),
    Where English=0, Hybrid=1, and Metric=2

    The SDK will give exact info. I just did a quickie for the example.

    If the gauge has the proper "tooltip" coded, then the setting will display there when the mouse is inside the rectangle.
    That is the simplest fix if it doesn't have it...Don

    You could also simply modify the <TooltipText> displayed...

    Code:
     <TooltipText>%((A:KOHLSMAN SETTING HG, inHg))%!2.2f! inHg-%((A:KOHLSMAN SETTING MB, millibars))%!d! MB</TooltipText>

    This would display 29.92 inHg-1013 MB in the tooltip...
