Yea perhaps prepar3d. I understand there is a version now for $50 that anyone can buy.
    That is the Academic license.
There is also a Developers license at $10/month. I spent the $10 and didn't see enough difference to make a full purchase, but, $10 would allow you to test and see if it is going to run on your system, before stepping up to the plate...Don

How about just running a clean FSX CFG?

I'm on a Intel Core 2 Quad@ 2.8, 9600GTS and 4GB of Ram on W7 and I found going back to a stock CFG with only an Lod radius tweek ( Up to 7.5 from 4.5 ) And Using Nvidia Inspector I can run everything maxed with 30FPS locked with no CTD. ( Including REXE and Orbx sceneries )

OK so after swithching back my GPUs between the two machines to put the 260GTX back in the sim machine to help out flight. Then I flew for a couple days in flight (that didn't take long to get old). I had originaly pulled that card out for the older 8800GTS because FSX CTD on the 260 very often. Looking back the change a year ago had that screwed up cfg with all the duplicate and incorrect entries that mallcot pointed out. So now with the newer card back in the I7 930 system I deleted the CFG again with no tweeks, and ran FSX last night. Crossed my fingers but after a short 1 hour flight I had no CTDs. Will give another hop tonight and see what happens.

Update. With the last flt done I did just the highmemfix and affinitymask tweeks to the cfg. Also to note that I also placed a different version of uiautomationcore.dll in the FSX folder. I have now 3 hours of flt time and no CTDs. Also with the version of UI...DLL in the folder I deliberately did a 5 min stint of rapidly pressing every menu item and Saitek panel switch I could which in my experience would crap out FSX in seconds.... but didn't. To note everyone says to use one of two versions of UI....DLL from Vista but A friend told me to use the version from win7. I now use that and it seems to be working well.

Well as it turns out the demons are still there. Gone through countless CFG setups and so on. So with out any options left I an setting up a dual boot tomorrow. Xp sees only 2 cores and the i7 has 4. Should I set the affinitymask set to 3 or 14

    Thanks again.

The I7 is ONE physical processor with FOUR separate cores on board and XP will recognise and use all four just fine.
Uhhh... Do you mean even if the edition of Windows XP Pro is x86 and not x64????

    Thanks,

All versions of Windows XP will recognize all cores in a single processor system.

Oh. So, it's just the RAM that you lose? I have 8 GB of RAM and I don't think it a good idea to drop to 2 GB.

    Thanks,

32 bit XP can use up to around 3.5GB of RAM.

I experienced the same thing with my HP Laptop. It came preloaded with Vista x32 and I took my laptop to the Geek Squad and asked them if they could install my WinXP Pro x86 on my laptop. They said they probably could but I would lose most of the features of my T9300 dual core processor. When I had tried to install WinXP on my laptop the install would not continue. I forget the error message I was getting but I finally gave up. When the SP2 finally came out for Vista, I found it to be a much-improved OS and abandoned the idea. Lately, I have be considering installing WinXP on my ASUS i7 2600 PC. That's why I was questioning about the idea of going back to WinXP. I still think, in some ways, that WinXP was less troublesome than Win7. Maybe when SP2 comes out this summer for Win7, it will improve like Vista did for me.

    Thanks,

    Tim
