You shouldn't lose any features of the processor by installing XP. The big limit with 32 bit XP are the memory restrictions. After over hearing some conversations at Best Buy with Geek Squad and the sales staff, I will always take what they say with a grain of salt.

As for Windows 7, it has been a solid OS from the start and I don't think one needs to wait for a second service pack.

P3D. It was the only thing that kept my sanity. I purchased it and it has not crashed yet.

    Thanks all for your help.

My FSX in Windows 7 - 64 bits runs like a dream.

-Do NOT install FSX in the default map C:\Program Files\ ....

-Always start with a clean fsx.cfg

-Follow this tuning bible to the letter:

    It's as simple as that.

You must have recieved a different version then most. Menu.dll, gd39.dll errors are common and are slated for fixing in upcoming releases. No, most find P3D is not anymore stable than FSX.

Bartbear, it is not as simple as that.
I have Windows 7 64-bit (with very strong hardware) and have done all of those (install in a non C:\Program Files\ hard drive location, clean fsx.cfg, become familiar with the "tuning bible" URL that you mentioned, etc.) and it didn't keep me from getting "Program Not Responding" freezes every time that I tried to use FSX.

i migrated away from 7 and fsx for xp64bit and Fs2004 and i run it at full settings and it runs flawlessly and never crashes 3/4 through a 4hour flight like FSX does sometimes. My reason for using Xp64bit is xp has Horizontal span desktop and 7 doesn't(i don't mean extend). you can use softTH for spanning in 7 but i find xp runs well. This allows me to use two 18.5 monitors and spread my cockpit out evenly.i use 3/4 of the screens for FS2004 and the remaining 1/4 for misc items like gps and atc. and i have Multi crew experience giving me a copilot. "set take off thrust please!"

    Oh, that's serious.

I suppose you do have the latest (free) version of FSUIPC4 ( at this moment: 4.84 )?

A completely updated computer, also the latest videodriver? Good protection and virusfree?

You don't have problems with other programs?

So you must have been through the G3D.DLL CRASHES AND FIX and MENU CRASHES AND FIX AKA UIAUTOMATIONCORE.DLL-FIX items in the Kosta bible to.

I suppose the only thing you can do then is a complete reinstall of FSX from scratch.
    See: http://support.precisionmanuals.com/...stall-fsx.aspx

I know it can be frustrating .... good luck!

    Bartbear,
I did the Jesus Altuve's fsx.cfg modification and it worked wonders (about two months ago).
But recently, after loading a "saved flight" that was a 737 on approach, with autopilot on, the program crashed (froze) again.
Recently I have mostly been doing FS2004 because there are no problems.
I love the better scenery of FSX, but it does not run as well.

    Hi sir,

I don't have your solution, but I have advice about posting on the forum. You WILL get people who talk down do you, be it intentionally or that's just their nature. Don't worry about them. Along with them, are people here who truly want to help and do it without insulting anyone. Don't get discouraged by those who feel they are superior and reply with condescending replies.

Hold your course and only pay attention to those who are here to help. There's a LOT of smart cookies on this website who can probably help you.

    Good luck sir....

    (BTW... I run W7 perfectly). I have a quad 3.0, GTS560TI, 8 gigs of mem....

I experienced crashes after a couple of years when I had an NVidia 8800GTX. I found that the insides were clogged up with dirt causing temperature problems. After opening and cleaning it with a soft brush the problem was solved.

    Hope this helps.
