Amelia Earhart's last flight 75th Anniversary.
i've been flying or attempting to fly this flight for the past 12 years, since FS2000
It's amazing how FS developers have helped us through the years to make this flight more and more realistic.
The great developers who've brought us the AE Electra L 10E, the sextant, more realistic guages, flight plans are just too many to even begin to mention; however it's easy to think of a half dozen right away.
Realizing we’ve discussed this in detail many times here at this FS site, it still remains one of the most incredible mysteries in the history of aviation……an adventure that has been studied and written about for the past 75 years and will remain just as intriguing for another 75 years or until it has been solved. I really have a feeling that the time is getting close when this story will say, "The End".
After all there’ve been many mysteries that we’ve recently solved with the aid of modern science and technology….the titanic is one that comes to mind right away. This unsolved mystery is just as intriguing as Robert Louis Stevenson’s tales of "buccaneers and buried gold".
I've been attempting to complete a commemorative flight for the past week, but each time some new question comes to mind, start researching, and usually run out of fuel in one of the tanks and crash.
There are many theories and ideas, but I'd say the two best are the "Waitt Institute for Discovery" and the TIGHAR organization.
After compiling information for years what started to be a report has turned into more of a thesis.
I have to say, I'm more in the Waitt Institute's camp than the TIGHAR's.
Personally I say fiddle sticks! After 9 missions and one in progress all they've done is sifted sand and come up with nothing conclusive. I remember years ago, spending an entire Sunday reading everything they had done up until that time. I believe it was about the time they were ready to embark on their 2nd or 3rd visit to Gardner. I must say I was intrigued at that time. That was before the many more hours and days since, reading the actual radio tranmission reports, learning about navigation, and best of using the flight simulator, believe it or not. Setting up flight plans and using the factual data is one of the many reasons I've stayed in hobby for so long.
The reason I like Waitt's group is that they've put everything in a logical order and have separated what are facts and what is conjecture....well for the most part.

Did Amelia Earhart follow Waitt's Path A, B, C, or perhaps another to Gardner (Nikumaroro) Island?
At this point I'm saying none of the above.
I have a new theory, but am not ready to argue the case just yet.
