Modifying 2D and virtual cockpits?

Hello!

I recently downloaded a lot of freeware planes, some of which have terrible cockpits with instruments all mashed up together so they're all warped and you can barely read what's on the gauges, so I thought I would have a go at making some cockpits. I remember Computer Pilot publishing an article about it, but I can't find it in my stack of magazines. So I was wondering if either you guys in the flightsim community can direct me to a useful tutorial, tell me how to directly, or tell me which issue of Computer Pilot had the tutorial in it, that would be great!

This site looks like it's for physical cockpits, I'm talking about control panels in the sim, not switches and knobs that you push and pull.
