I hope everyone is having a fun and safe 4th of July. I drove straight through a thick cloud of fireworks smoke on the way to the ferry, and thought oh great, the troopers and their pilot eating canines are going to have me for lunch for sure. Then went through a cloud of restaurant barbecue smoke, and thought, then they are going to gnaw on my tires!
I've always had this strange tradition on the 4th (actually in our town the 3rd, we have fireworks on the 3rd, that's what makes us special), for some years I had computers coming outta my ears, and to celebrate freedom in general I'd repair my computers on the balcony and watch the fireworks below. This year been too busy and tired, and it's cold outside, decided to skip that tradition. Then, right in line with Murphy's Law, one of my important computers fried the power supply with smoke coming out of the PSU. Back to the tradition! Replacing the PSU with one I hope will last longer and hope the motherboard is still good.
This is my Frankenputer, 10 hard drives hanging out the side along with a fan pointed at them. Socket 478 P4, started out as a 2.4 ghz Dell, upgraded to 2.8 ghz, then 3.2 ghz, has burned out maybe two past PSU's, about three AGP video cards. This photo down below was taken in FS9 while the 256 or 512 (?) mb AGP ATI card was still working.
Back to the drawing board, hope I can get it running again.
