Thread: Cnversion of FSX .bgl files to FS9 Scenery.

Default Cnversion of FSX .bgl files to FS9 Scenery.

Does anyone out there know how to make .bgl files from FSX work in FS9 Scenery? There is a person who has created new scenery for the Gen Wayne A. Downey Int. Airport in Peoria Ill. I run both sims, but like most people, FS9 runs a whole lot better on my PC. FSX not bad, but FS9 much better frame rates. Thanks.

Well, since no-one else has made any suggestions, I would start by trying to open the bgl file in one of the bgl editors for FS 2004. I would then try to apply some commonsense. Are all of the scenery features in that bgl (and you know what they are because you ran that file in FSX) there? Does the editor make any comments or complaints about any features? Maybe you might have to delete or modity some?

If all of that worked, I would then do a "Save As" under the a different filename and then try the new file. If you opened an FSX.bgl, is there an option under Save As to save it as FS2004 compliant?

I don't know the answers to any of those questions. But that is what I would try.

While I won't say it can't be done, by the time you convert objects and textures to FS9 format you will have invested quite a bit of time and effort for little reward due to the difference in supported resolutions (those impressive FSX graphics will be disappointing once reduced to a fourth their size). You would probably have a better result starting from scratch and creating for FS9.

http://www.scruffyduck.org.uk/filema...ir=.%2FFSX2FS9 is a beta utility to do this. More than likely you might miss some objects that are standard in FSX only. Check the docs. The development of this is not a priority with the designer, the chief designer of ADE9X.

    I have not tried it.

In the FS9 scenery library is il_apts.zip here. The KPIA .jpg preview (under zip view) adds gates and maybe other objects. It uses rwy12 and EZ scenery library objects. See the docs about obtaining them. It includes two other airports.
