Default British Airways A318 transatlantic flights

Hi, has anyone tried to do the British Airways transatlantic flight in the A318? This flight is actually from the real world. British airways uses two A318 to fly from London City to the US. Yes, Im also curious how an A318 can manage to fly 10 hours over the atlantic What do you think?

I've done it in the Wilco airbus. On the way to JFK it actually stops in Shannon in Ireland to clear US customs and refuel, then it's around a 7 hour flight. On the way back its straight from JFK to LCY. It's essential to pick a NAT that has the most favourable winds. Also the real plane is all business class with 36 seats, it wouldn't make it with a normal configuration and full load.

Yes, i have done it with the Project Airbus A 318. I know that on the flight from LCY-JFK, that it stops in Shannon, Ireland, but you can make it to JFK if you climb slow enough and don't fly at .83 Mach. the flight back from JFK-LCY is easy. I usually fly a direct route, without any VOR's, which helps the aircraft make the flight from LCY-JFK without a stop.

Not a terribly realistic way to do it. The real aircraft uses a cost index of 0 and cruises near its max ceiling of FL390, usually results in a mach of around 0.82. As for a 'direct' route, that certainly wouldn't be allowed. The planned route changes every trip in conjunction with which North Atlantic Track they wish to use. You'd be hard pressed to find any VORs in the middle of the Atlantic.

the A318's BA has for the long flight are specially configured. more fuel tanks and, as mentioned, all business class.

PrivatAir flys a B738 from AMS to DFW non-stop, also pre-configured.

    cheers,

About a week ago, I just flew on Project Airbus 319 BA from Shannon to JFK without any problem It was great trip. It took me 7 hours and 40 min in flight. The fuel was fine enough when I arrived. Whew! lol

    Btw,

Don't forget the passenger payload is very LOW. The pax total is 32 seats. Probably around approx 6,700 lb. Make sure light load baggage cargo and gallery.

I still cant believe that an A318 can do a trasatlantic flight. I doubted that a 737 could do it, but an A318? Whats next, a C152 from LA to Tokio?
Could somebody explain me how is this possible? Because I dont think all business class configuration is the only answer.

The flight is BAW1 from London City EGLC to New York and return, every weekday; in specially modified A318-112; 32 business class passengers + 8 crew, and extra fuel tanks. Takes off from short runway in LCY with minimum fuel load, and stops over 45 minutes at Shannon EINN to fully refuel for transatlantic crossing. This is clever, because passengers can get processed for USA entry at the immigration facility at Shannon. The Shannon stopover is not needed on the return from JFK to LCY because the A318 lands on short runway with minimum fuel load. The flight number BAW1 is inherited from the daily Concorde flights.

Also, on the return journey it will have tail winds.
