Default What do you think about FLIGHT?

Okay. At first I want to state that I dont want this thread locked, so dont post comments like "I think flight is stupid".
When I first heard about FLIGHT, I thought that it will be another Flight Simulator, covering the whole world, with many aircraft, you know what I mean. Then, I tried it. I was disapointed. It was just another game... But now, as I think about it, I might have gone wrong. FLIGHT isnt that bad, its just... different. But anyway, what do you think?

That is the point so many have missed

It is different and if viewed with a fresh eye it does have a lot going for it.

There are a lot of keen followers and they have produced some nice screenshots.

Of course it is still in it's very early stages, but surely it can only get better, but different it surely is and different it will remain and if one keeps thier favorutite FS on the system they have a choice a bit of varirty.

Same can be said for the FS.9/X debate...why not have both and use each for what's its good at.

Throwing everything away and jumping into the lastest is not what it's supposed to be about.

As such flight takes nothing away, FS can still be there with Flight as a bonus.

I see FLIGHT as a new beginning, like FS1.0 in the 1980s, that covered a small area but was built on until we get the flight sim we know today. I think it only covered the whole world after about 15 years of development.

People are only interested in FLIGHT becase it's Microsoft and they have that heritage and people can't understand why they got rid of it, I say they got rid of it with ACES in 2009. I would say the attack now is because people (in general, no offence to anyone in particular) love to complain, they complain about nuclear power, they complain about wind power, they complain about phone masts then complain when they have no signal, the list goes on. People have complained about every FS release since these forums began!

If it wasn't MS, people would say it was brilliant, after all it's free, the flight dynamics are miles better than FSX, so is the scenery, yeah FSX is better with addons but FLIGHT is free to begin with! Live a little! Appreciate what you get! Not what you don't get! I don't complain that FSX doesn't have as nice an interface as FLIGHT or as good default aircraft systems, and I paid for FSX!

As for 'it's a stupid dumbed-down game' what about FSX tutorials and missions! No-one complains FSX is too 'gamey', people are just angry MS have locked the 3rd party developers away from FLIGHT, FOR NOW! Minds can change, and hopefully will.

I am obviously biased towards FLIGHT, I would still like to see a full blown FS11, am just sorry for MS that they have so much criticism which I think is unjustified

For all my words though, I don't actually use FLIGHT, I did extensively, when it first came out but now for a while since

I will say one thing against FLIGHT and that's so far there have only been cockpitless planes, that's really disappointing but they hopefully will release some more, and remember, when they do, they are QUALITY like Carenado! HD visuals, complete cold and dark startups, ILS capability and very very good/helpful interactive cold and dark startup runthrus which I enjoyed immensely

I made a similar post showing other's reactions a while back:
    http://www.flightsim.com/vbfs/showth...What-is-FLIGHT

Some people are angry this moves 'towards the Xbox crowd' but are we really so stuck up we OBJECT to new community members! If FLIGHT can create a new audience, don't we ought to congratulate MS for infecting more with the 'flying bug'!

Then maybe they will want further, find forums and threads like these and either:

1). Find our friendly community, helping their problems and pointing them in the direction of FSX to quench their thirst for more varied flying

2). Find a load of rants about how lowbrow and uneducated FLIGHT and its users are, telling them to go back to shootemups and leave the 'civilised' flight sim community free from the feral 'gamers'

I think that this GAME, if used in free flight, gives the very best VISUAL FLIGHT SIMULATION that I have ever seen...Mainly because of its superb 3D water and fine accurate coastlines. There is some small room for improvement on the Weather side when the weather is fair, but the new weather states seem excellent. I would like to see real life weather downloads eventually. The flight dynamics seem superb to me and I enjoy flying the aircraft with cockpits but most of all the Icon.

I miss ATC and TRAFFIC but I imagine that they will come eventually.

So I give it a huge thumbs up and look forward to flying it for years ahead

I was keen to try it, but I was hugely disappointed even before all the cockpitless aircraft.
Very few aircraft, all of them not too interesting, well, for me anyway, only Hawaii, without any life whatsoever, I felt the ground textures were not very good compared to some of the ORBX textures I use in FSX, awful water, there was no possibility to paint aircraft etc. OK, it was smooth, but so is my FSX, and the weather was OK, but so is my REX. So where was the improvement?
I gave it a try, really I did, but I just got very bored with it, that, and the childish 'game' concept. All those areocaches, pfft.
It is not my game, and so I was disappointed. Those who know me will know that my main interest lies with WWII aircraft, so I could have been right with the later releases. However, not having a cockpit was the ultimate disappointment. Ever heard of a pilot that flies from outside of his aircraft? Besides, from what I have seen, the exterior is also not very good compared to some of the recent releases from A2A and the like, so in the end, I fail to see the point of Flight completely. I had a final look at the free P-51, but they couldn't even position the roundels right. In all a very poor show, so no more flight for me.
But hey, I'm only talking for myself, I can imagine that other people may like it....I think.

    1. Xbox/Newbie gamer finds flight , enjoys the free version, keeps buying new Flight addons from 2012
    or
    2. Xbox/Newbie gamer finds flight, enjoys the free version, tries FSX, finds it's too buggy, horrible frame rates on modest hardware, CTDs due to win7/8 incompatibility when compared to Flight, buys FSX Addon from 2011

Not saying you are wrong ben... just how I see it... personally the 3rd option is better, that is they enjoy Flight, and buy X-plane as well. Also at least with Flight we're getting NEW aircraft. What's come out for FSX in terms of high quality aircraft?

If Xbox/Newbie gamer tries FSX, finds it's too buggy, horrible frame rates on modest hardware, the FSX forum will guide him through 99% of the issues. CTDs for me are more common with Flight. Actually, every time I use it.

What's come out for FSX in terms of high quality aircraft?
Obviously you are too wrapped up in bashing it to even look. Wanna compare? I'll put the A2A FSX offerings up against ANYTHING the Flight team could even envision. The Milviz F-86 Sabre is in Alpha testing and promisses to be astounding. The new Warbirdsim P-51 "Happy Jack's Go Buggy" has almost every detail it's RW counterpart has. Better yet.. let me know when one of these people come on these forums. It's been 4 months and it's still hasn't happened... Did I miss the wave of new users or something? What actually is probably happening is these so called Xboxers are getting bored and moving onto another game that has nothing to do with Flying...
