Do you mean land as in actually touching down, or do you mean land as in descending from your cruise altitude down to a lower level?
    Thanks,

    Jim

Due you get the message 'Please expedite you descent to flight level' whatever ATC has told you as I think you are not descending fast enough???

You are not landing then. In a jet you should be at 1800 FPM.
    Thanks,

    Jim

Jim i agree but surely at times as you get jets desend at 700 feet per minute at times as 1800 brings you down far to early

Of course and at that point ATIS will not be keeping track of your descent rate. There are different phases of a flight and they all have their own sets of guidelines.
    Thanks,

    Jim

Depends on whether you are flying with a visual flight plan or instrument flight plan. For a visual you are in control and ATC will not have much to say. For a instrument plan ATIS will tell you when to descend from cruise altitude to approach altitude. Once at approach altitude then ATC will not monitor your descent rate.
    Thanks,

    Jim
