Thread: Is there a cure for the "Curse of the Double Coastlines" problem???

  1. Default

Hope you guys got your files. Opa Marshall sent me these files before he died. We had to rename the file extensions in order to beat the outlook security. I had some issues getting the exe files to run in Win 7. I cannot recall how I got them to work, but I did. Good luck and hope it helps in some way.

Looks like you guys resolved the issue, but that is weird stuff. I have Ultimate Terrain and Megascenery PNW installed and have never seen that, with or without the coastlines thing checked off in UT. You should post the official cause and fix for future reference.

Likewise I'm curious to know what the filename of the patch or whatever it was that cured the problem. I've got patches upon patches for making all these sceneries work together but I still have the double coastlines. Identical to Glenn's first shot from what I can tell:

    Thanks,
    Jim

It is a UT/Flightzone official patch. I don't have Flightzone, so I didn't install it. Not sure if it is on the UT site or the FZ site.
    Thanks,

    Jim

The patch was designed to solve a problem with double coastlines in Seattle caused the Flightzone PDX package. This thing came out soon after PDX was released. I never did find any support site.

I've got the "FZ02 Compatibility upgrade for Ultimate Terrain USA" (FZ02-UTUSA.zip) and I've also got "FZ02 Compatibility upgrade for Columbia River Gorge" (FZ02-CRG.exe), both came from the official Flightscenery site back in the good ole days, but neither do a thing for the double coastlines at FlyTampa KSEA. Apparently there's something else?

There's a patch for this and a patch for that, and I guess to be fair I never examined anything before all the patches were installed, but the only real bug I've ever found anywhere in the "FS9 PNW" was the double coastlines around KSEA.

Can't get LWMViewer2 to run on Win7, can't remember if I had this problem on my old XP machine, guess I'll fire it up and have a look...

Thank you so much Bill for the patch file. I found mine this morning in my Inbox.

(sigh) Okay... so, I followed the directions inside the Official FZ02-UTUSA Patch instructions, and everything seemed good, except that I never could find the "Uninstall" files anywhere on my hard drives, just incase I needed to undo the patch. I figured no worries. That was my first clue. haha.

So I loaded up the FS2004 simulator with NO extras running (ie: ASE-weather, etc.) I selected Seattle, "slewed" up to 4500'AGL, and this is what I saw once again. Not as many coastlines, but they are still present in this area of the Puget Sound.

I decided to investigate further out, so I loaded up Camano Island near Stanwood, Washington. It's located north of Seattle. The coastlines up here appeared to be perfect. This shot is taken flying over the Puget Sound, just off the coastline near the town of Lake Ketchum. Using Google Maps to pinpoint our location which is just south of the Skagit State Wildlife Recreation Area.

I decided to travel back down south towards the metro Seattle area to see where the coastline trouble would begin. I found it here... just off the coastline of Edmonds, Washington. The Port-of-Edmonds is visible just above the left wing of the Taylorcraft. The double coastline effect begins just beyond this point heading back down towards Seattle.

So... now I knew how far north it was located... wonder how far south it actually stretched? I decided to check Olympia, Washington. Sure enough, the situation here was absolutely horrible as you can clearly see with roads all over the water surfaces too.

Well now. Let's see what things are looking like outside of Washington state completely. I then loaded up Scappoose, Oregon because I had previously had terrible issues here with the double coastline effects. Here is what I discovered. Using Google Maps to pinpoint our location, this is the Lake Cunningham district just northwest of the Portland, Oregon area. It appears things have gotten much worse for some reason.

I decided to head further southeast towards the Columbia Gorge area to see what it would look like. (?)

OOOooh my gosh... something is wrong.
Dumb me didn't figure it out right away. DUH!

As you can see in the photo above, the FlightZone Portland02 scenery is now completely missing. A quick check of the Addon Library inside of the FS2004 interface showed that the entire entry for the Portland scenery was indeed missing from the Addon list altogether. Another quick check outside of the FS9 software interface showed the files were still on the HD. I guess somehow, somewhere, something went wrong? Hahaha. Just my luck on this one.

Okay. Going to slowly start working my way back through this issue. I'll keep you updated on the process.

Again, Thank You Bill for sending me the Patch. I will figure this out. Hopefully when I reactivate the Portland Scenery, that will fix the issues. If not then I will try un-installing all of it, and starting over. I'll update everyone soon.

I fired up the old computer and found that I'd deactivated "HL915150_FZ02_CRG_EX.bgl" which was in Addon Scenery\FlightZone02_SC\scenery and appears to be part of the "FZ02 Compatibility upgrade for Columbia River Gorge" (FZ02-CRG.exe) patch. Deactivating that .bgl removes the heavy shoreline in my shot and your 1st shot in this second set. It doesn't fix the smaller triangular shaped road network out in the water though, it appears there just isn't any landclass defined there. I may try making a small landclass to see if that fixes it.

Not sure what's messed up down in the KPDX area from having that .bgl disabled, I'm sure something is, but I flew in and out of Portland 1000 times with it disabled on the old machine and never noticed anything.
