Default Is there a cure for the "Curse of the Double Coastlines" problem???

    Hello my friends
I hope you are enjoying a wonderful weekend. It's absolutely gorgeous and sunny here in North Carolina today at 87 degrees.

I need some help please? I know there is a fix for this issue, but I cannot remember what it is. I have the fabulous FlightZone Portland02 scenery installed on my system, and it is one of my favorite add-ons ever! However, activating it causes some major visual effects (ie: double coastlines) in other areas outside of the Portland scenery area.

I have tried moving the LandClass entries in the FS2004 SETTINGS Scenery Library up & down the file list with NO luck~ I still have double coastlines everywhere in the western USA. Isn't there a "Patch" somewhere for this problem? I have searched for it, but cannot find the actual file. I have written (2) people on the AVSIM Forums with no responses so far after 1.5 weeks, even though they are online daily in the Forums.

MY CURRENT SETTINGS... No matter what I choose, as long as the Portland02 Landclass is activated (regardless of layering) I get double coastlines. What is the answer?

Thank you very much if anyone has any advice or answers. I truly appreciate it. I spent 4 hours till early morning last night testing/playing with settings and files. Ugh.

    Very tired and confused... ~Glenn

For some reason, a long time ago, I recall having the same issue. Can't help but think it had something to do with Ultimate Terrain involved in there, somewhere. Can't tell you if it was layering in the sim...the actual installation order...or what. I could be all wet on this, Glen, but I think I received help through http://www.scenerysolutions.com/ or the Flight1 forums?.....

There is a patch. I tried to e-mail the OP, but I got a message saying his/her box is full.

I've been wrestling the same problem, primarily in the Pacific northwest and the Gulf Coast area but also evident in the Great Lakes and some larger rivers. In some cases I have an island coastline with no island, just a "ring of coast", other places waves are breaking a half mile offshore with no coastline anywhere.

My understanding is that there is a sort of clash of AFCADs that causes this. Check any addons for those areas. Some developers provide patches or quick fixes.

AFCADS are for airports and have absolutely nothing to do with this. People that have no AFCADS see the same thing!
    Thanks,

Thank you everyone for the replies to this issue thus far. I will investigate the Flight1 Forums and see what I can discover.

BillWhite: Sadly, I must tell you that "OPA" is no longer here with us. He passed away on August 4th, 2011 @ the age of 76. He is sadly missed by everyone all over the world.

Also, I agree with Jim (Moderator) that this is not a AFCAD issue. I think this is some type of compatibility issue between Ultimate Terrain and the FlightZone Scenery. I just cannot find the specific patch needed to address it. (I) used to have it on my hard drive, but now I cannot locate it. It has been years since I have needed it, and I have apparently lost it.

I've read this is caused by two, or more, sceneries in the same area supplying coastlines; through some arcane logic the sim will use the coastline from one with the terrain from the other. A common culprit seems to be sceneries that replace files in low level default folders (...scenery\world, ...scenery\name, etc.); a quick scan of those folders on my system revealed too many suspect files for anything short of a complete reinstall to clear up. But since the problem didn't rear its ugly head til I installed UT, I'm hoping there's a patch - or even a simple manual file swap - to correct it.

I am aware of Opa's passing. I have the patch. Send me a PM with your e-mail address and I will send it later today. I meant to say sceneries instead of AFCADS....too much heat in Texas!

@ Billwhite: I'm really sorry... my blunder. I read your post wrong, and thought you were referencing "OPA". My apologies. I think I need to have my "new" eyeglasses readjusted.

Private message sent. Thank you so very much Sir.
