Hp had limited graphics card choices. The choices are Intel HD graphics, Nvidea Gt 630M at 1 and 2gb. Does a better graphics card increase the overall grahics meaning that lower setting graphics are better on better graphics card or does it just help with performance Evan though FSX is CPU based.

[QUOTE=loki;1689637]Just about any current discrete Radeon or Nvidia GPU will be better than the Intel or AMD integrated options. Out of the two you list, the GeForce GT 630M would be preferable. The site below is useful for seeing how the different laptop GPUs perform. For FSX, look for something as high as possible on the list (Class 1 are the most powerful), and at least in the Class 2 section.

Hp has limited grahics card choices. The choices are Intel HD graphics, Nivedia Gt 630M at 1 and 2gb. Does having a better graphics card make FSX at lower settings better than a cheap graphics card.

While FSX is primarily CPU bound, it does still require a decent video card. Having the fastest CPU possible but with an Intel integrated video card isn't any better than having a really fast video card paired with a low end CPU. There needs to be a balance for optimal performance. The reason people say FSX is CPU bound is that after a certain point, a faster GPU won't improve performance while we have yet to hit the same point with CPUs.

A second reason for separate video cards is that the integrated ones share system RAM, which reduces the amount of RAM available to the OS and any running programs. In these days where 4GB+ of RAM is common, this isn't as much of an issue, but it is still a limit. Discrete video cards also have their own dedicated RAM that is better tuned for GPU use too.

I would go for faster a CPU and GPU combination before worrying about the hard drive. A hybrid or SSD drive will only help improve loading times, not performance or frame rates in the sim.

Thanks that's what I thought I am going to get Nvidea 1gb GT 630M graphics card. I am having trouble finding a good CPU the best I can find is 2.5ghz with turbo boost 2.0 to 3.1ghz. I also see some laptops that say processor speed: up to 3.1ghz and other ones say 3.1/2.5

I just got the intel i7-2760QM 2.40 turbo boost to 3.20. It runs FX really good. I have max out everything except airport vehicles and leisure boats. I use REX, UTX, GEX and my trafficx. I have nvidia GT 540M 2 GB. Everything runs smooth. I have 8 gb of ram and I don't see where it hurts the sim any. I use bandicam and it shows my frame rate steady between 24 - 28 night or day which in my opinion is plenty. If it stutters at all it's real subtle.

What about a 2nd generation Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2640M Processor (2.8 GHz with Turbo Boost up to 3.5 GHz) the laptop comes from hp which gives you the ability to costomize your laptop with processor, ram, video cards, etc. It's the best processor I've seen in a laptop at my price. The graphics card is 1GB Radeon(TM) HD 7450M Graphics [HDMI, VGA] The hard drive is 750gb I don't plan on downloading tons of freeware because I've heard it could cause crashes. The ram is between 6 and 8gb I know that FSX can only use 4gb but FSX won't be the only thing on the laptop (schoolwork). The os is Windows 7 home premimum. The link to the laptop it probably won't be customized like I have above it is a g6s serries http://www.shopping.hp.com/en_US/hom...00-Notebook-PC

This one hits your price range, Turbos to 3.3GHz and includes an nVidia GT650M discrete graphics card.
    It's a 17.3" display, but, the max resolution is only 1600 x 900.
It should run FSX pretty good if you limit Autogen(Sparse-Normal), Weather(Med-Low), and Traffic(Med-Low/Med-High & no road).
The rest of your sliders can be set much higher...Don

That seems nice but I found one with a 2nd generation Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2640M Processor (2.8 GHz with Turbo Boost up 3.5) it is customized at hp but it is 1GB Radeon(TM) HD 7450M Graphics [HDMI, VGA] the processor cost an extra 225$ and the graphics card was a intel HD. Here is the uncostomized link http://www.shopping.hp.com/en_US/hom...00-Notebook-PC
