    Default Help! Upgraded Computer/Win 7-64, Now Some Aircraft are Disfunctional

    My old computer had an AMD quad core CPU and VISTA-32. I upgraded to an AMD 8 core CPU and a clean install of Win 7-64 (FSX is not on C: drive), now some of my aircraft don't function. For example, the Acceleration F/A-18 original aircraft work correctly, but the addon squadrons do not. They show up in the preview window with only the nose gear extended, and when I start the flight, the aircraft is on the runway with a collapsed nose gear. I also have the Captain Sim two seat F/A-18D installed. That aircraft looks ok in the preview window, but when I start a flight it is on the runway with no landing gear (just hovering off the ground) and the flight controls don't operate (flaps don't move, stabilators don't move, ailerons don't move). Everything worked perfect on my old computer configuration.

    Do you have admin privileges, do you have UAC disabled, do you have DX 10 preview off, also "aircraft cast shadow on ground" can cause issues

    Since you mention the Acceleration F/A-18, I assume you have loaded the Acceleration disk? And activated it?

    Stupid question but did you reinstall FSX and the add-ons or just the OS?

    2) UAC is system wide.
    If it is attached to the computer, UAC handles it's security.
    By default, almost everything installed outside of C:\Program Files or C:\Windows have full "User" control...Don

    jomni,

    Not a stupid question. I did a clean install of Win 7-64 (added new hard drive to my computer), then I installed FSX Deluxe on my F: drive, activated FSX, then I installed Acceleration and activated it. My previous location of FSX was on my G: drive (when I had VISTA 32 as my OS), so this was like having a back up. I then copied several of the folders from my G: drive to my F: drive (i.e. aircraft, gauges, addon scenery, effects, ect).

    fxsttcb,
    Thanks for clearing that up! When I had the VISTA 32 OS, I installed FSX on my G: drive to avoid UAC issues that folks encountered by installing FSX on their C: drive (and FSX worked perfectly). After I did a clean install of Win 7-64, I searched the internet to see if I should install FSX on my C: drive or another drive. The advice that I got was to avoid installing FSX in either the Progam Files folder or the Program Files (x86) folder on the C: drive, so I avoided the C: drive altogether and installed FSX on my F: drive. With all that said, do you think that my problem with my addon aircraft is do to UAC? If so, how do I fix it? Thanks!

    ...do you think that my problem with my addon aircraft is do to UAC?
    No. It sounds like a corrupt core file somewhere.
    I had the same thing happen with my last re-install. Deluxe worked fine, but Acceleration didn't. An un-install of Acc didn't help.
    A Repair fixed Deluxe, then a re-install of Acc got me back up to speed.

    The biggie with a Repair is any default file, including those default aircraft.cfgs with added liveries, that have been modified, tweaked, or otherwise changed, will be returned to default status.
    You can make a copy of your existing FSX folder before the repair and paste those individual files back in afterwards.
    Acceleration will have to be uninstalled before a repair attempt, and reinstalled, after the repair, or it won't work.
    Once FSX Deluxe is working properly, defrag and reboot, before installing Acceleration.

    Here are FSX file locations for other files you may want to back-up:
    fsx.cfg and GrantedRewards.BIN, {C:\Users\User Name\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX}
    Your control settings = Standard.xml {C:\Users\User Name\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX\Controls}
    Logbook.BIN and flight plan files {C:\Users\User Name\Documents\Flight Simulator X Files}
    scenery.cfg {C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\FSX}

    Once you have Deluxe squared away you can make a copy(FSXD) of your complete FSX folder to avoid future repairs of it.
    Then back it up again(FSXA). I do a once a month of the whole thing(FSXA-6-21-12).
    Those three backups take up drive space, but, have been a Godsend when I mess something up!
    I tweak and tune daily when creating panels, gauges, and *.air files, so, I blow it often...Don
