Thread: Help Needed With COP3/rcbco-30.zip Carrier Package

  1. Default Help Needed With COP3/rcbco-30.zip Carrier Package

Is anyone familiar with the COP3/RCBCO-30 carrier operations package?

Yes I use it regularly , I think it's one of the most important addons available.
I created the freeware F-111 Pig HUD panel , and I included all the necessary entries in it's Panel cfg
for the RCBCO-30 carrier operations package , thus users only need to download RCBCO-30 and
place the gauges into FSX gauges folder and fly.
While it might seem strange to some , the F-111 was designed with strengthened U/C for carrier work,
and actually a version of it did carrier arrested landings and catapult take offs , according to the
book " Pentagon Paradox " the F-111 had a better ( lower ) wind over the deck speed than both the
    F-4 Phantom and F-14 Tomcat.

The Carrier package functions as follows :
    - Catapult launch is triggered by Park brake ON and applying full thrust.
    - Arrested landing is triggered by the tailhook contacting any hardened surface.
It also includes a supersonic " con " vapor effect complete with the 'Boom" .

I can use it to land on roads and even land and take off the F-111 from longer hardened rooftops.

    Cheers

I finally got it all working except the zones. I have it working in global mode.

But to my knowledge the USN never accepted the F-111. It was considered too heavy.

If you look at your INI you will probably find it is either empty or only covers a small number of
    aircraft carriers.

I included two INI's ( arrestor and Catapult zones ) in a folder in an older FSX version of the
    F-111 Pig HUD package , it's file reference is fxpiggb4.zip ,
those INI's cover the zones for "Carriers 2006" and some other aircraft carriers.

To the best of my knowledge the INI's were primarily for the FS9 version of the
Carrier Operations Package , however the INI's do effect at least a display aspect of the FSX version.

If you cannot locate the INI's on the internet it might be worth a try downloading the above referenced
    file just for the INI's.

While the USN missed out on a brilliant aircraft they did very well getting the fabulous Tomcat.

Have fun with your Aircraft carriers , they are an absolute delight to work on after a bit of practise.

The ini only had one carrier in San Diego and the test zone.

I was able to use it in the test zone.

But I have tried adding a couple more test zones but no luck with them.

    Still HACKING on it!

I opened the INI's in the Zip previously mentioned:-
CAT INI had 47 zones and more that are commented out.
    ARREST INI had 22 zones.

I only use the 18 Carriers 2006 which are fixed non moving carriers scattered about the world , while they are
not of a high eye candy visual appearance their advantage is that they have radio NAVAIDS allowing the
use of ILS approach guidance , good for night landing or for a beginner to develop a visual perspective picture
of the carrier during approach to landing.

The modern carriers , such as Jarvior Nimitz and OZx East coast of Australia package do not have ILS ,and approachs rely on
the Meatball and judgement of perspective approach picture.

What Carrier package do you have loaded ?

I think that some clarification is required on the subject of Aircraft Carriers.

There are two different types of Carriers .

    TYPE 1 : " Fixed " aircraft carriers , they are a carry over from FS9 ( FS 2004 ) .
It is these carriers that the INI's apply to , the INI contains the precise co ordinates of either
the Catapult or Arrestor zone , these co ordinates are read by an instrument installed by COP3/RCBCO-30
    in the aircraft.
Fixed carriers are essentially a airport at sea and will appear as an airport in your FSX startup menu just as
you select a airport to fly from normally , they will also appear on a GPS unit or radars , and can have ILS.
" Carriers 2006 ' is a freewarepackage which is a " Fixed " carrier , it was made for FS9 but it works in FSX.
I think it's well worth having.

TYPE 2 : " Moving " carriers , These were introduced in FSX , Microsoft provided some in the simulator ,
but they are hard to find as they move about , a google search will help locate locations and movement
    timetables.
" Moving " carriers do not appear in the FSX airport listings , technically they are not airports , rather they are
AI that move at sea level , they will not appear on GPS units or radars , as AI objects a radar can be programmed
to display them , I gather that these radars have been developed but I have not used them yet.
Moving carriers cannot have ILS , perhaps someone might develop an ILS that can be attached to a moving AI sometime
    in the future.
INI's have no use on moving carriers.
There are freeware " moving " aircraft carriers available , such as :
    - The Nimitz by Jarvier , it's magnificent , while flying you can switch it on and set how far ahed of you that you desire
it , and when finished you can switch it off . It is possible to place it on rivers , lakes or dams , I placed one on a lake near
Kathmandu , the lake surface was 14,000' AMSL .
    - OZx have a freeware package of ships that move about the whole of the Eastern seaboard of Australia and it has quite a few aircraft carriers in it and they are landable.

I know that this reply is a bit long , but there is one more thing.

AIRCRAFT : Your COP3/RCBCO-30 package provides the capability for any aircraft that has it installed to land on all the
    above aircraft carriers.
SOME aircraft are now specifically made for FSX aircraft carriers , these have inbuilt modelling for Catapult shuttle
engagement and I believe they have specific Aircraft cfg enteries to enable carrier work. They also require a couple of
    extra steps preparatory to launch.

I do have the "Carriers 206" package and have used it with the "Arrester Cables" package and it works.

So fare I have 2 airplanes setup with COP3. I have used COP3 in the provided test zone. Yesterday I installed the test zone data from "Arrester Cables" in the COP3 ini file. It worked. I expect the other zone data from "Arrester Cables" will work.

I'm not interested in moving carriers. When carriers have missions out they do not move far. They need to stay close to the launch point for recovery.

I have been learning how ro make better carriers using the available carriers.

Right now I am working on a program to generate the "Zones". Next will be a program to relocate a carrier. I can relocate a carrier with ADE but I want a simpler dialoge that does it in one step.

The following might be of use to you.
Each of the " Carriers 2006 " has an ICAO allocated to it , it's listed in the documentation.
    they are :-
    AC01, AC02, ......... up to ... AC18.

If you download the freeware " WAAS " instrument by Don Kuhn , available from the " fs2x " website and install
it in your aircraft , that instrument has instructions on how to enter a ICAO for a " Direct To " flight plan with your
keyboard , that will enable you to easily locate any of the 18 carriers from any range.
It's a very handy facility for finding an aircraft carrier in a vast expanse of sea .

A long time ago I took off from Lossiemouth and tried to locate a carrier out in the North sea , it's almost
impossible to locate them without some form of assistance.

Try it you will love it.
