Thread: New PC for FSX

  1. Post New PC for FSX

    Hi,
FINALLY got a new PC for gaming (second hand, but still) which is being upgraded. Sadly as the video cable comes tommorrow I can only give you a few specs and not the full ones. Anyway, here goes:

    Dell Dimension 9200
Intel Core Duo 2 2.xxGhz (Being upgraded at a later date to quad-core @ 2.4Ghz)
4GB Ram (Maxed out for the motherboard)
Nvidia GeForce 8800GTX (ATi Radeon 6850 being bought the day the computer is tested)
    Windows XP/Vista (maybe even 7, I don't know what's on there)
    500GB Hard drive
    Thrustmaster HOTAS X
    FSX Standard

Good enough for FSX on high/max settings? (When everything is bought and done) I think so.

That will be a good mid-range FSX system. To really get into the high/max end you need a processor running closer to 4GHz, if not over. At least if you are planning on running the more highly detailed add-ons out there.

It's not top of the line but not slouch by any means. I think FSX would run pretty good on that rig.....Definitely get the ATI if you're going ot run Win 7. You can't use Dual view in Win7 with Nvidia and you want Eyefinity from AMD so you can have the cockpit across multiple monitors if you choose to do so.

    It's freeware for me
But the Quad-core processor apparently can be overclocked up to 4 Ghz- even though I have no clue how to overclock, atleast I have the option
Gonna be getting ready for the day those sliders go right and not magnitised to the left...Hehehehehe....

Dell computers don't typically let you overclock te CPU.

Free is always a good price, just don't expect miracles. Pushing all the sliders all the way to the right will not work well with that system. Like I said above, it is a mid-range system.

Nvidia cards can span games across screens just like AMD video cards can. However, to do so you need two cards in SLI in most cases. As I said in the other thread, please read Nvidia's page regarding 2D Surround.

This program claims to span multiple monitors.

UltraMon is about multi-tasking and spanning wallpaper across multiple monitors, not games. So it won't help in this case. It is something Microsoft should have built into Windows though.
