    Default Co-Pilot

I'm looking for some form of virtual Co-Pilot that will answer radio calls and make instructed course corrections whilst using auto pilot.

It's very frustrating that if I plot a flight that is 4 hours long I have to stay in my chair for the entire 4 hours in case I miss a radio call and get my flight plan canceled.

FSX claims to be "as real as it gets" but a real pilot would not have to stay in their chair they could get up and walk around or even have a sleep and their co-pilot would handle the plane.

And before everyone starts mentioning It's your plane I already looked at it and cannot find a clear indication that it does what I want and the demo that is supposed to show you what it can do is useless since it only lets you use limited features in a Cessna which I have no interest in and is nothing like flying jets.

I also do not need something to do as much as that so would be paying for loads of features I would never use.

I also have a major problem paying more for an add-on than the original software it is being added to cost.

So are there any other options?

I don't what to have to use a workaround or trick FSX into handling it a different way I just want to be able to turn on auto pilot and walk away from my machine for 10 mins or something without worrying about the flight plan getting canceled.

I still want to experience all the usual radio calls while I am in control but both of these work around mean there will be no radio calls for the vast majority of the flight.

Go get Radar Contact. First of all, it's far superior to the FSX ATC. Secondly, among the commands are toggles to let the co-pilot fly the pland or for him to answer the comms.

This is something I do on a flight if I want to get up and stretch get a drink of water use "the facilities" etc. I turn up the volume so I can hear if any ATC calls come in. You can even hook up a wireless headset to your system and not bother your neighbors. I have a wireless headset I got from Radio Shack for $39.00. I hope this is a lower cost solution.

I use the tried and true method of not contacting ATC after I'm at cruise alt. That's when I'm able to "leave the cockpit" without my flight plan being cancelled.. then when I'm about 170 nm out, I'll re-establish communication.

    AH HA!
I used to use the 'tried and true method as well'
However I now use new tried and true 2.3 with added no go around protection.
This involves no use of ATC(either default or addon)
    For me the perfect solution.

ok I have tried Radar Contact on a friends set and it seems to work ok if a bit slow to respond it's only downside is it does not use the FSX ATC but it's own so no progressive taxi

The only downside for me is that the RC co-pilot feature doesn't work with any plane I'm interested in flying. The "take the coms" feature works, but the co-pilot one does not.
