Thread: Simple need for a heading indicator with bug

  1. Default Simple need for a heading indicator with bug

    I have poor computer skills compared to most of you guys so bear with me. I have a GA aircraft that was made without auto pilot. I managed to get an auto pilot placed in the aircraft cfg. It works (sort of). I have the Saitek multi panel. This allows me to control the auto pilot as there is no auto pilot panel in the 2d or 3d cockpits. I can't get the AP to couple to GPS or VOR and that is Ok I can live with that. I just wish I had a heading bug. There is none on the direction indicator. The Saitek panel will show heading selected digitaly but I don't want to keep flipping the left most knob back and forth between alt and heading. I even assigned swithes on my yoke to adjust the heading bug so I could leave the panel on alt.

    In short. How could I add a 2d heading indicator from some default or otherwise existing source with heading bug to my dedicated 2d monitor (where I place the comms box and GPS) I don't mind that the 3d view will have the original non bug heading indicator, I Just want to see what heading I select.

    Or perhaps if someone knows how to display selected heading digitally. If all else fails I will just buy anothe Saitek panel but $$$ ouch.

    Thanks guys

    Find a heading indicator/directional gyro you like in another aircraft that has a heading bug. Then find the name of the gauge contained in that plane's panel.cfg file - it will be in a line like:

    gauge24=Z_DC6KMTG!DIR_GYRO, 706,882,153,153

    (this is just an example, your line will be completely different).

    Then copy this part: Z_DC6KMTG!DIR_GYRO (i.e. between the = sign and the first comma)

    and paste it over the name of the gauge used by the heading indicator/directional gyro in the panel.cfg file of the GA plane you want to change. Leave the rest of the line unchanged. Save the file. Note that you should make a backup of this panel.cfg file first, in case you make a mistake.

    Hope this helps,

    Thanks Tom. Will try that and get back to you. Will this be for the 2d or 3d instrument?

    Could be for either one. The first sections of the panel.cfg file are for the 2D panel, and the VCockpit sections are for the VC. The only time you won't be able to change out the one in the VC is if it is modeled in 3D (i.e. inside the model).
