Thread: Two Unusual Questions for FSX

  1. Default Two Unusual Questions for FSX

I was a long time FS9 user, and made the switch to FSX last November. As my opportunities to fly are limited, I sometimes notice some very subtle differences between the two sims, and sometimes I like what FS9 did better. Anyway, I would like to know the following from those of you that really know the two sims inside and out.

    1. In FS9, I had an add-on program called FS Hot FX. This add-on provided, among other sounds, the take off and reverse engine sounds of AI aircraft that were landing and taking off around you. When I switched to FSX, someone mentioned to me that these sounds are included with FSX. However, I do not seem to hear, for instance, the reverse roar from inside my cockpit when an AI plane lands near me.

    2. Also, when I observe an AI aircraft takeoff, it suddenly disappears once it climbs about 500 feet above the runway. In FS9, I remember seeing the AI aircraft climb out, and make a turn away from the airport far in the distance. Is this a setting I can adjust ( I use Ultimate Traffic X) or the disappearing aircraft are simply inherent to the main FSX program?

    Any information would be appreciated.

    Best regards,

    Kevin

I use My Traffic X Pro 5.4 for my AI aircraft source and control (in FSX), not Ultimate Traffic X, but here are my experiences...

    1. I definitely hear the engines of AI aircraft as they taxi by my aircraft, even over my own engine sounds. (This capability is definitely included in FSX.)
    2. I can see AI traffic many miles away, both on takeoff and on arrival (i.e. in the traffic pattern). Using the zoom function, I can see them WAY far out! This may be due the LOD scheme used by your traffic program, or the AI aircraft models as opposed to the one I use. Not having to draw all those little AI airplanes would definitely improve frame rates.

I'd guess there is something in the way you have your AI traffic configured that is causing your problems. Sorry I can't help more!

    Hi,

That's quite odd that you can't see the AI aircraft climb above 500 feet. I have no add-ons (apart from a couple of WOAI packages) and I can also see AI traffic climb and turn from ages away. Do you have aircraft labels on and are there any clouds when the AI dissapear?? Also, do you know if they actually disappear or is it just that you can't see them? Sometimes, there are issues with AI traffic and they seem to vanish after takeoff. I'm not sure whether you can adjust anything with Ultimate Traffic X because as I said, the only add-ons I have are separate WOAI packages.

I can also hear AI engine sounds when they are near me, however, there isn't a real roar when the engines are reversed so I understand what you're saying there. Is that FS Hot FX add-on compatible with FSX? If not then I'm not sure about any add-ons that may fix this.

I Hope you find a solution for the 'disappearing' problem.

Probably how the AI program works.
I use (Just Flight) Traffic X and it too disappears after gaining altidude. They are still there in the sim... they're just not rendered unless they are near.
But I do hear the AI engine startup and reverse sounds in Traffic X.

As I understand it. the Hot SFX program is not compatible with the 64 bit system that I use to run FSX. Too bad as it did produce some neat sounds.

I too have Traffic X. The Traffic X AI traffic does indeed climb out, turn on course, and flies off in to the distance. It does not disappear for me. I am not sure why you are not seeing it, jomni.

As for AI engine startup and reverse sounds in Traffic X, yes, they are there and can be heard.

    What are the system specs?

The only time I've heard of something similar was the AI was more than the CPU/Memory/GPU could handle.

Hey - Maybe that is it. I use Ultimate Traffic 2 for FSX, not Traffic X that is released by Flight 1. Perhaps it is the AI traffic generator that is the problem. Does anyone use UT2 and experience disappearing AI planes shortly after takeoff??? Thanks Kevin

I use UT2 and have no problems with AI sounds or AI disappearing.
I would suggest turning off any other AI packages that may be causing conflict. I had to delete years worth of WOAI downloading,
because the two packages would not interact. I'd often see 2 A/C on the one stand!.
Also, go through the UT2 settings very carefully and make sure you have selected what you want.
There is a free update to UT2 on their site, that may help if you don't have it.
