Thread: Blurries, long texture loading times on high-end system

  1. Default Blurries, long texture loading times on high-end system

    Hello everyone,

    I'm using system which i'll give details below, and have problems with fsx. No matter what i've done with fsx.cfg, i cant prevent blurries and long texture loading times.

    For example, i'm flying with any addon, over Friday's Harbor in 150-200 knots, and land textures are not loading and remain blurry. Sometimes they're loading after i flew over the area, generally they're not loading and stays blurry.

    I'll explaing what i did:

    I played with, swap timeout, TBM, BufferPools, even Job Scheduler, texturemaxload settings and results. Something must redo or neutralize other, if one of them is solution..

    FIBER_FRAME_TIME_FRACTION=0.75
    ProcSpeed=15265
    HIGHMEMFIX=1
    IMAGE_QUALITY=0
    LANDING_LIGHTS=1
    NUM_LIGHTS=8
    See_Self=1
    TEXTURE_MAX_LOAD=4096
    TEXTURE_QUALITY=3
    TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=400
    TextureMaxLoad=3
    TransitionTime=4.000000
    UPPER_FRAMERATE_LIMIT=0
    LOD_RADIUS=6.500000
    MESH_COMPLEXITY=90
    MESH_RESOLUTION=24
    SWAP_WAIT_TIMEOUT=2
    TEXTURE_RESOLUTION=26

    System is:

    i7 960 @4.2
    GTX 570 1 GB
    120 GB SSD (OS)
    7200 RPM HDD (FSX installed in here)
    750W PSU
    12 GB DDR3 RAM @ 1440Mhz

    Are you following any kind of guide for setting up Fsx? Because of the myriad of tweaks combinations, randomly trying this and that is a futile effort. I think you would be very happy with the results from this link:

    http://www.venetubo.com/fsx.html

    NickN at simviation.com also has some very good step by step guides to tuning Fsx

    Hi Bruce,

    Yes i know bojote's website. In fact i'm using this site to tweak FSX, then i'm adjusting LOD radius myself. It didnt solve my blurry problem, both of selections (conservative and normal)

    Have you defragged your FSX drive using NickN's recommendations?

    My system is very similar to yours and I am really pleased with the way it runs FSX.

    As for tweaks to fsx.cfg, in actual fact, since SP1 and SP2, very little is needed.

    Basically, all I've done is:
    - Set it up using this guide along with using Bojote's automated tuner.

    - Added the [JOBSCHEDULER] section to fsx.cfg like this:
    [JOBSCHEDULER]
    AffinityMask=14

    - Launch FSX via an external frame rate limiter (basic usage instructions here).

    - Use Nvidia Inspector to control the video driver (setup using this guide).

    Suggest:
    - You make a copy of your current fsx.cfg and then delete it from your C:\Documents and Settings\Username|AppData\Roaminmg\Microsoft\FSX folder.

    - Launch FSX to automatically re-build fsx.cfg.

    - Follow the guides and info provided above to set up FSX.

    - Install Nvidia Inspector and then follow this guide to set up an FSX profile.

    loki,

    yes defrag has been made.

    noell,

    Is it possible to send me your BIOS settings ? Voltages, multiplier etc ?

    I'm suspecting faulty overclock (it passed hours of Prime95 but, well)

    Also are you using 850W completely ?

    Try adjusting your mips settings? And for a neolithic caveman solution note the following: in FS9 blurring of ground textures IN A PARTICULAR AREA while scenery objects (including auto generated objects) are not affected can be caused by some scenery objects having textures with mips and others having textures without mips. As the textures are loading once you get further away this sounds very likely to be a mips problem with a local object. My solution was to get rid of the textures with mips. Check the textures of scenery objects within sight of where this is happening.

    Absolutely no point in giving you my BIOS settings because the BIOS settings used to achieve my over-clock will not be the same as yours due due to mobo and chip differences. I've over-clocked many systems but I don't recall ever seeing the BIOS settings match even if the model numbers of the mobo and the chip matched.

    Your subject line says "Blurries, long texture loading times on high-end system". Those types of problems do not result from a faulty over-clock so why do you suspect you have a faulty over-clock?

    I'm using nowhere near 850 watts. First when I built my system it was totally reliable with a 650 wattter. I needed the 650 watt supply for another project so I upgraded to an 850 watt just in case I might want to add a second video card down the road, additional drives, etc..

    Roger,

    Tested, trees became christmas version but unfortunately still blurry. Even LOD is 7.5, they're still loading when plane arrives top of textures, sometime they stay as blurry..

    noell,

    I asked BIOS settings, because i'm also checking power consomption from everest, FSX starts with high FPS, stays a minute or more then FPS drops to 30-25, also power usage changes meantime. Because of that i'm thinking there's something wrong with voltages or PSU's itself, not enough power to run 4 cores (HT disabled) at their full capacity maybe ?

    I know GPUs are not effective in FSX but, i see same spikes in GPU usage too.. Maybe i'm giving more voltages than necessary so there's not enough juice for GPU ?.. These are my theories..

    Then somewhere you have system throttling active either due to CPU load, or temperatures. It is not your power supply.
    Thanks,
