Thread: Intel Power Boost and FSX

  1. Default Intel Power Boost and FSX

I have a new Intel 2500k Sandybridge cpu and and Intel board that has a power boost to the cpu so you don't have to technicaly overclock the cpu. My question is, will it boost my chip up to a 3.8 mhz or so or will it stay at 3.2mhz. The underlying question being will I get the full potential out of the chip if it only boosts on what it thinks its supposed to. I know Toms Hardware said to boost all the time, but when you do that it runs a lot fast, hotter, and comsumes more power.

FSX will benefit more and exhibit more consistent performance from a direct over-clock rather than simply letting Turbo Boost look after it.

Your 2500K is a great over-clocker and any extra heat generated by doing so can be easily and reliably taken care of by using an after market cooler. As for power consumption, unless your power supply is really anaemic, you won't have problem.
If increased hydro consumption due to over-clocking concerns you, in the overall scheme of things, its negligible.
