Thread: "Grumpy mods" is not the issue

    Locking threads doesn't make real issues go away, I would say that's been demonstrated by the 4 threads I've seen so far (Or was it 5?). Freedom of speech is something that was lost a long time ago in the real world. You'll still get away with it in most of the internet world, just depends where you're doing the talking.

    Apparently you don't visit here often, or we've done our jobs and cleaned up/deleted those threads before your visit.

    Most of today's members were not around ten years ago (before moderators), or they would realize the need for them.

    Freedom of speech is a great thing, but it simply does not exist here in these "privately owned" forums.

    Yes but do you see a certain problem here... people going to the Flight forum and crying foul, when in reality they should be in the P3D forum and nurturing FSNext. We need to divert that anger into a forum that will lead to a productive outcome. My suggest any negative posts of Flight should be moved to the P3D forum where they belong. And it's up to the moderator to provide that guidance. Otherwise we won't need any of these forum as the hobby will be dead.

    Uh?
    alaskancrab, you are confusing two different products. Microsoft®Flight and Lockheed Martin- Prepar3d® are two seperate products and sold by two different companies. One is entertainment /consumer market while the other is for the commerical market.

    Please note this;

    As to Microsoft Flight, I think you are confusing promoting to simply supporting, in the manner that we support other Microsoft products. Flight has gotten more attention in some respects simply because it is new and thus generates news. I don't see where we have really promoted it beyond simply reporting news about it when it comes up. We have a forum for it because we have interested people who are actually using it and because it fits in with our primary purpose, supporting people who are interested in flight simulation primarily for entertainment.

    P3D is not really a new product. It came from Microsoft ESP which had been around for some years and which generated no interest among simmers since it was not targeted to them...it was intended for training purposes. So far, P3D is the same, it's intended for training and not for entertainment. Over the years there have been many such sims, intended for use by real pilots and we've never offered support for any of them though we'd occasionally post a news item just to let people know such things are out there.

    I'm not hard set against a P3D forum. However, I have yet to have even one actual P3D owner/user ask for it. And I'm not really interested in having a forum that will be nothing but rumors and speculation. If P3D owners want a forum, let me know, you know how to reach me:

    Moderators in this forum board are doing a good job. Give them credit for keeping the peace here. It is a thankless job at times. I have been a moderator, not here, and understand the work they do. I think the threads that have been locked are done by people just wanting to stir the pot when they have been told not to.

    At a forum I use to frequent they have this in their rules and think it a good one;

    Behave like adults! What do we mean by this? Imagine the forum is run by a bunch of people who have invited you over for dinner - we expect sensible, well thought out conversation. If you start getting personal with other diners, you are likely to be ejected. This not your house after all, you don't have a right to sit at someone else's table and disrupt things.
    Something to think about ...

    The "elephant in the room" in this thread is the fact that anyone who has acquired a licence for P3D has agreed to the EULA which states that it may be used only for purposes other than personal/consumer entertainment.

    Like I said what seems like a thousand posts ago, I'm done with it, I'm going flying.

    Worthy though this discussion has been, I don't want the blame for the fact that it has wandered so far off course. I put up that post to Loki about my failed PM to him at about 20:00 Z yesterday and then I went home. Now I come back and the sh*t has been hitting the fan big-time. I think we have talked this topic to death and maybe, FOR A CHANGE, we could just let a conversation go out quietly without being locked. I think we all have a lot to think about. I'm going flying.

    nevermind... offtopic. Seems people are just fine destroying the hobby... This nonsense about EULA started with Flight1 and continues on with PMDG. It's nonsense despite LM's constant urging of us to think of our hobby in another light. You can't ask for a study sim and call it entertainment. Oh well what do I care, If you read every one of my posts dating back, I got exactly what I wanted out of MS and Flight

    And therin lies the confusion - if I am using it to learn to fly AND I enjoy learning - does that constitute entertainment? It's best for each person to make their own decision and live with it. If you cannot justify it in your mind, don't purchase the product. But let's leave the discussion of the legality of owning the product to the legal forums.
