Thread: Some thoughts on the P 3-D poll

Default Some thoughts on the P 3-D poll

Jim, thank you for letting the Prepar3d run the course that it did. It was one of the best discussions I've ever read on the forums with a lot of points of view being expressed. This, in my opinion, is the very best that these forums can produce. I'm sorry if I got a little edgy in that "stupefied" post, I think I might have been pushing the boundaries of civility there and I didn't mean to do that.

But since I haven't yet been called up in front of a firing squad, I'm just going to offer another thought or two and, Nels, I assume you are listening.

These are discussion forums. Their purpose is discussion. When a thread gets locked, discussion is cut off. Frequently that is for the best. But I think a little bit goes a long way.

Clearly (in my opinion at least), there is a gigantic amount of interest in P 3-D, whether it is worth a damn or not is another question. But I think that question needs to be explored. P 3-D, not the Microsoft arcade game alternative, is the topic of the moment and if you won't let the membership have a forum in which to discuss it freely, a lot of people are going to want to know why for a long time.

So I urge you, let there be a forum at least for a while. Put it up for three months and if there isn't a great amount of interest, fine, take it back down. Thanks for your consideration.

I'm going to put my neck on the line and say I agree with tres2 about threads being locked down too fast.
I think the only threads that need locking are ones that begin turning nasty and abusive (like schoolyard brats wildly name-calling each other, or unproven over-the-top libellous criticism of companies and products), but the rest might as well be left alone to scroll away naturally..

PS- A guy started a thread a couple of days ago asking for help with a '3D driving video', but it was hard to understand exactly what he wanted (maybe english wasn't his first language, or maybe he had a touch of dyslexia) and the thread was locked before we could help him, grrrr...

I'll be very honest by saying that I don't really care if you think threads are being locked too fast. There is a sound, valid reason behind every single lock put in place. Sometimes the reason is given and sometimes not, but there is a reason!

A request for a driving video has absolutely nothing to do with flight simulators and that was the reason given for the lock.

Yes, these are discussions, but about flight simulations or related/reasonable. Now I am going to lock this because we are not going to discuss the locking of threads, funny as that might read!
    Thanks,

    Jim
