An absolute stunner. best GA plane ever released. lots of new "first" time released aspects.

Realair is still raising the bar even higher.

    Looks really nice!

Big fan of the Duke and from the look of things, looks like the bar is even higher on this one.

Wouldn't go so far as to say best GA ever released.
It is still stunning, but let's not let the hyperbole run away with it, shall we?

It's missing a lot of features that one might expect these days for something to qualify as `best` - persistent engine and systems damage modelling, parked and maintenance visual options (chocks, covers etc) removeable pilot option, visible passenger option, paint kit, to name but a few.
Feature-wise it's nowhere near the Aerosoft Katana 4X, for example. That remains a total aviation experience and the best single-engined modern GA. And it's nowhere near the interactivity level of the A2a Piper Cub.

Visually, it's about on a par with the Carenado stuff, but where it really shines is in the flight modelling.

That alone justifies a Day One purchase, plus Real Air do something that Carenado don't - they actually test their products before release instead of after.

As I can see on realair website there are pictures with an empty cockpit, so it seems that the pilot is removable. If someone that have the plane would be so kind to confirm that...

I told you I have it. The pilot is not removable. Nor is there any mention about a removable pilot in ANY of the literature - on the web site nor in the manual.
This has been a Real Air trait for some time - a visible external pilot is invisible internally. I don't have a problem with it

Th Katana X by comparison, has removable pilot and co-pilot and even conditional animations based on presence or absence. You cannot put the control lock straps on while the pilot is in the seat - just as in real life.

The A2A birds all offer the same features.

Again, not a showstopper for the Legacy, I can understand why you can't see the pilot while inside, but it's not the best GA ever, it's a massively competent product.

    Hi Mallcott,

It's the privilege of users to compare directly one add-on with another. It is not a developer's, so I'm not going to get into the comparison thing. I would like to point out a few things however. The Legacy has the maximum number of polygons allowable for its design possible in FSX without provoking a crash. It also has extremely high resolution, carefully done textures. For these reasons you will barely find a single jagged edge, or even hint of one, over the vast majority of the Legacy. We think that is quite important, and much much more important than whether we provide chocks, covers or moveable pilots, which add yet more to the already stretched, frame rate influencing graphics.

We didn't think it was that important for this particular aircraft to have engine failure modes, which we did have in our Dukes. Instead we spent much of our time making the Legacy flyable for pilots who are interested in visceral feedback in every possilbe flying situation, like for instance the abililty to not only side-slip properly, an important aspect and basic flight quality present in every GA aircraft but missing from many FSX aircraft, the ability to spin with just elevator full back, and with rudder, accelerated stalls, and whole lot of other perhaps more subtle things you won't notice on the average flight which involves taking off, circling and landing.

We think the above features are important because of the type of aircraft the Legacy is. It could not be more different from a relatively easy and safe flying school training type aircraft, although we have always felt that since part of training includes spin recognition and avoidance that would be far more important than whether you can move a couple of chocks out of the way!

We put much of our energy in other pilot flying feedback features such as one hundred separate sound effects and about 50 unique visual effects all co-ordinated with the flight model so that every turn, climb, mistake, landing, approach, steep turn and manoeuvre had appropriate feedback. That's because we are interested, particularly in the Legacy's case, in simulating flight, rather than storage of the aircraft or other things that would have stretched further the decent frame rates that everyone wants.

No aircraft is the "best" since everyone has their preference about what they think is important. There are lots of aircraft available to suit all tastes and many of them are good, or very good. We don't want to get into a competition about this, but we do hope that our customers will absorb over time the trouble we have taken to make things we think are important work well.

    All the best,

    Rob - RealAir Simulations

    Rob,

Of course I accept your choices - I voted with my wallet within minutes of release - but extreme fidelity does seem to extend beyond the physical presence and flying characteristics with many high-end aircraft in FSX these days so quantifying a good, better, best is the prerogative of the purchaser. But many of those will grade removable sunglasses or wheel chocks above extreme flight model or systems fidelity - it's the Carenado business model, after all (just made a user comparison there).

If it comes to a choice between outstanding flight dynamics with visceral feedback and good frame rates, or wheel chocks and removeable sunglasses - I vote for the flight dynamics!
