What commercial or educational institution members would like to discuss P3D?
Please be ready to state the name of such institution in your reply!!
The latest talk around the flight sim community is that Prepar3d is simply a straight licensed copy of FSX but with a huge price tag slapped on it to impress aviation schools and the like..![]()
If that is the latest talk, then that first part is totally wrong.
This is another hard example of why we are not going to discuss P3D much around here!
Prepar3D is a licensed copy of Microsoft's ESP product, which is based on the FSX sim engine. That high price gets you a sim that can be used in educational, commercial and government organizations with support, and pays for further development of the sim. If you fall into one of the categories on LM's license page, such as being a private pilot, you are welcome to buy and use the sim.The latest talk around the flight sim community is that Prepar3d is simply a straight licensed copy of FSX

I watched the short film by Lockheed Martin here on Flightsim a few days ago.
In 3 minuets, they showed army tanks, hummers, pt boats, a battleship etc.
My reaction to this is: it sure looks like something made more for entertainment than something that would be use at a flight school.
It looks to me like Microsoft sold it to Lockheed Martin and while the story given to the pubic is that it is to be used for
commercial or training only, they told L.M. behind closed doors "You bought it, do whatever you want with it".
"What is Microsoft® ESP™?
Microsoft® ESP™ is a visual simulation software development platform that brings immersive games-based technology to training and learning, decision support, and research and development for government and commercial organizations. As a full platform, it is an all-in-one set of simulation engine, tools, and content, enabling developers to affordably create compelling simulation solutions for their customers.
Simulations built on ESP can engage users in immersive experiences with very realistic land, sea, and air environments—making them ideal tools for training, evaluating, and preparing personnel for optimal performance in the real world. Microsoft ESP enables organizations to create, deliver, and realize the enormous benefits of immersive simulations while gaining a strong return on investment that’s not readily available from other platforms today."
This is what LM purchased and has further developed.
And now because more useless rumors are being thrown around this one is closed.
