Thread: Snow in the Cape Verde islands

Default Snow in the Cape Verde islands

Okay, I just left Ouagadougou in the Republic of Burkina Faso in West Africa, headed for Sao Pedro in the Cape Verde islands. I am completing what has been probably a three-week excursion through Africa in the Pilatus PC 12. I'm really looking forward to having a look at Sao Pedro because, just as it was when I landed at the Cape Verdes on the trip out about three weeks ago, it's snowing! I reported this here in the Outer Marker forum and I posted a screenshot in the screenshot forum. Nobody paid any attention. Can't say I blame you because the very notion of a place near sea level farther south than Cuba reporting heavy snow is ridiculous. Now, on the way back, the same airports are reporting this same weather. This is a controlled airport with a tower; the people submitting the metar reports are professionals.

Or what? Something is clearly wrong here. It can't be snowing in the Cape Verdes! The thing is, I was getting the same reports of snow on the West Coast of Madagascar interestingly at about the same latitude. Clearly, something is wrong, probably something about my system but I can't figure out what. I'm just using good old flight simulator real world weather. I would be grateful if somebody, anybody, would see what kind of weather they are getting at either one of the tower control airports in the Cape Verde islands.

I'll post a screenshot when I get there.

It's the data on the weather server.
    Thanks,

Jim, my sanity is at stake here, I just want to make sure I have this right; are you confirming that you are seeing the same reports? And can I assume you are seeing them on ASE?

And if these things are the case, what in the ever loving HECK is going on?

Well, I'm not going to send a screenshot right now because it has stopped snowing at São Paulo airport. But, at this moment, it is still snowing at Francisco Mendes. At the third airport with a tower, Aamilar Cabral, I haven't seen snow today but I've seen it there before. There is no doubt in my mind that these things are appearing on my flight simulator and it seems that Jim Skorna is confirming this.

So it appears to be a paradox; something which cannot be, yet is. You guys can ignore it if you want to.

Ambilobe (FMNE) at the north end of Madagascar is also showing heavy snow at this time. Ridiculous! It's always five-mile visibility, and the temperature is always in the mid to upper 60s Fahrenheit. I would love to get to the bottom of this.

ASE is showing FEW clouds at 43 hundred and a temp of 22C. That part of the world never sees snow. So either you are using a weather theme in FS or there is something very wrong with the Jepp data.
    Thanks,

    Jim

FMNE is reporting 26C and no prcip.

That is what happens when you rely on Jepp data. If you want better weather you need to ditch the default MS stuff.
    Thanks,

    Jim

Not using a weather theme, not using a weather theme. Excuse me, but I've been doing this for at least fifteen years and I have learned the difference. I almost never use anything except real-world weather, updated every fifteen minutes

I just loaded up a flight at FMNE and downloaded real world weather from within the sim. 5/27/12 at 20:43UTC, not seeing any snow...
