Thread: "Center Ailerons and Rudder" control disappeared?

  1. Unhappy "Center Ailerons and Rudder" control disappeared?

Hey yall! I need some help. Normally for keyboard controls, "Center Ailerons and Rudder" is done by using the "5" key on the num pad. However the other day I was on FSX and it didn't work; I checked to make sure it was still "5" and now it's not even listed in the settings at all!

Anyone know what I can do? I've tried reinstalling FSX and I've never installed any add-ons, nor have I messed around with any of the .cfg files so I don't know what caused it

    Thanks in advance!

It's numpad 5 key for sure. But to access it you need to click numlock first as its the key that is needed, not the number, if that makes sense.

Right, num lock is off. But my problem is that it's as if the control option doesn't even exist. There's nothing in the keyboard settings for this control. It's as if it disappeared... it's weird for sure.

In my defaults 'Num 5' only centralises the aileron trim.
My assigs screen looks like below, notice there's no key for 'Flight controls (centre all)' but I don't need it anyway because they centralise themselves automatically when i let go the joystick.
If you're not using a joystick and need the key, select the line and click 'New assignment', then type in any key you like-

It's under `Flight Controls (Center All) in the Assignments menu, as you say, but if it isn't allocated, just restore it by change assignment and put it back in.

The assignment IS required because there is NO auto-calibration from use of the joystick unless you actuall calibrate. To makes SURE you've matched controller to virtual controller you should always do the `three tap shuffle` on launching FSX -

    numlock + num pad 5 + numlock

it makes a substantial difference to how stable the aircraft and the virtual controller move.

At least it does on every rig I've ever used it on.

On my keyboard I've standardised on the `up` and `down` arrow for elevator trim, left and right arrow for rudder trim and have a couple of extra keys for aileron, but they're rarely used in FSX. Centralising rudder trim is Ctrl+down arrow. I don't have a `center trim` command for anything else as apart from correcting application of the a/p on the ground, I can't think when you'd ever use it for the elevator. This leaves numpad `5` for the center all controls - which actually only centers aileron and rudder NOT elevator.

So with a minimum combination I have a logical application of assignments - the arrows in particular. Obviously this applies ONLY if you have joystick and/or yoke and rudder pedals

I was going to respond to the post with the screenshot that that line didn't exist in my settings, but I just checked and now it's back! Yesterday it wasn't there Thanks for your help though I do appreciate it!

Maybe you didn't have the "Event Category" dropdown showing all events in the control assignment dialogue?
