Thread: Same file name

  1. #1

    Default Same file name

I downloaded the KAL 747 from here and tried to install it, but the title is the same as an Emirates 747 that I have already installed, and the computer wanted to over write, but I didn't think that would work. I even tried to rename the KAL file, but it was a no go. How do I get around that so that I can have both these airplane in my hangar??

Where's the "Title" error coming from... is it when you run FSX? If so then you need to change the unique title of the plane in the aircraft.cfg file.

Are you simply adding a texture to an aircraft that you already have or is it a whole new plane?

They are probably using the same air file (installer) & maybe the same model, if the air file (installer) are named the same then you could just add the KAL textures to your Emirates 747 , you can check if the model is the same by opening the model folder & if the model has the same name, thats ok but if not you could add the KAL model folder to your Emirates 747 aircraft folder as long as you name it differently from the existing model folder eg: model.x . You will need to update the Emirates 747's aircraft.cfg, you can copy the fltsim details from the KAL aircraft.cfg file to your Emirates 747 aircraft.cfg, but make sure you add the new models name to the "model=" section.

When the file is unzipped, it's title is "Boeing747-8F", and that's how it shows up in my 'aircraft' file.. Both the Emirates 747, which has been in my program for a few weeks, and the KAL 747 have that same title "Boeing747-8F". Not realizing they were the SAME, my computer warned me that there was already a file in my aircraft directory named "Boeing747-8F".. Rather than overwrite it, I tried to change the file to a different name like 'Boeing747-8F." (note the period or dot at the end??). It wouldn't work, or seemed not to work, so I stopped and sought the answer here. It is NOT an FSX file.. I have that program, but not installed.. I prefer FS9, so I seek just FS9 files.. Also it is not a texture file of the Emirates file.. This is a complete airplane folder..

Unzip the file to a temporary folder. Rename the unzipped file to Boeing747_8F and then move it into your Aircraft folder is the simple way.

    Which files did you download.

Also it would be incorrect to end a file or folder name with a period.

If the .zip file contains a folder name to extract to and that is the duplicate then go into your installed current version in the FS9 aircraft folder and rename that folder to "Emirates Boeing 747-8F" so it will not be overwritten.

Are these complete models for ai, user, or just textures for existing models. You can have separate folders under FS9\Aircraft for each one as long as those folders have unique names and they contain the complete model if that's what the designer intended. I have several AIA aircraft folders like that such as:

    AIA_757_200_CONTINENTAL
    AIA_757_200_NORTHWEST
KMSP - Minnesota: Land of 10,000 Puddles

OK.. Here's the deal... I 'renamed' the folder from Boeing747-8F to Boeing7478F... I just took the "-" (dash) out and installed it.. Worked like a dream.. Thanks for all your help.. Roy

If both aircraft are by the same author & use the same air file (installer), changing the aircraft folder name will not work.

What I was trying to say in my last post was, instead if installing the complete KAL 747 aircraft you could just add the KAL textures to your Emirates 747, that is if both aircraft are by the same author.

    Glad you got it working.

    Paul,

The file with the .air extension is not an installer. Your computer thinks it is because you have a program named Adobe Air installed on your computer.

Adobe Air claims that extension in the registry and this does no harm to FS, nor does it have any affect on the sim or how it operates.

You, and others who see this, should ignore the "installer" icon that you see and leave that file alone. Or click on it all you want, it will never install anything.
