Aah David I see you been feeling up some bird again hee hee seriously though lovely shots my friend.
WOW Deja Vu Back in July 1980 I was playing drums in a band and had a gig in Bend, Oregon. While up there we knew a guy who was a pilot and he flew us up to see the mountain. It was only 2 months after it blew up, and we followed a very similar flight path-except when we came in from the South - we turned and went west of the volcano, and flew on up and over Spirit Lake all the way to the end of the dead zone of Flattened trees that extended about 24 miles North of the volcano, then we turned back around and he flew us directly into the HUGE opening very much as you did, except we were a bit lower into the cone itself--HUGE HUGE Red Zone violation, and we did see a Helo coming into the area just shortly after we crested the cone on the Southside. I dug around here is a one picture I got-I will look for more that I took. What was very freaky about it all was as it was a flight into the red Zone-our pilot filed NO Flightplan, We flew over on 7-12-1980 and the first lava dome to blow off happened on 7-22-1980 -had it blown off when we were flying over it-NOBODY would have ever known what happened to us all
I don’t think anyone of us will forget when Helen blew her top; it was one of those things that has a way of stopping you in your tracks and take notice…
