Default question about file to download

    Hi all

I have a question regarding my FS9, I would like to improve upon the default scenery and was wondering what files are on this website that i can download which update and improve stuff like coastlines, hills, mountains e.t.c

Probably sounds like a stupid question to some of you but i would now like to improve my FS a bit.

Thanks for any help in this

Remember, the default scenery only puts rivers and towns and forests etc in approximate locations and is not therefore a real representation of the landscape, no matter how much you try to improve it. For example your house and street and local McDonalds will never be on it.
For that, you need photoreal scenery, preferably with 3D trees on it, there's plenty of payware about but i'm not sure if you can get any as freeware.

For more accurate hills and mountains you need better mesh, search for "mesh" and the state or country in which you're interested (be prepared for large downloads, many of these files are hundreds of meg in size).

There are many individual files improving coastlines for different parts of the world, sometimes for an entire country, sometimes just for a few miles; again, search "coastline" and the area of interest.

For the US, Canada, and Europe, I recommend a payware product - Ultimate Terrain; it improves coastlines, highways, and major rivers for those areas. Well worth the cost. As is Ground Environment Pro, a global texture replacer which is a vast improvement over default terrain (I even prefer it to many of the photoreal sceneries I had installed).

In the library here you might like HDE.zip, it contains improved sky, cloud, and ground textures; also Airport Environment Upgrade (aeu7.zip and aeu8.zip) for runways, lights, buildings, etc.; another is reprostp.zip, with replacement sky, sun, water, ground, and airport textures.

There are many replacement water textures available, these are usually a matter of personal preference so try several to find what looks good to you. Search for "water textures".

The freeware VOZ scenery for Australia is also a nice addition, and most of its textures (excepting the desert, the Australian desert is singularly red tinged) are suitable for many parts of the world. http://www.ausgamers.com/files/details/html/43719

If you're comfortable manually shuffling files, you can mix-and-match textures from several of these to get what you like best (then backup your texture folder so you can always restore that combination).
