well watching the shuttle flights on my SBS they climb up to around FL320 and above (Even) heading north, and therefore FL310 or above (odd) back
Even on short haul routes the value of the reduced fuel consumption from getting high, fast outweighs the fuel used getting there compared to staying at thirsty lower altitudes.
