  1. Default New to flight sim....just wondering which joysticks should I get?

Hello, I used to play train simulator game and now I'm in love with flight sim. It is really hard to play with a keyboard =P ....so I'm thinking to buy a joystick.
I like the idea of cyborg fly 5 flight stick(portable) ,but then I don't like the throttle on it...is the saitek pro flight throttle quadrant compatible with the stick?
I also like the saitek pro x52, but then the controller is big ....is pretty hard to store it =(.....
    Any suggestions ? Thanks

Depends on what you're interested in flying...I have two, a CH Flight Sim yoke (which I use 99% of the time), and a Saitek AV8R-01 stick which I only use if I buzz around in a fighter. I have had the yoke for over 10yrs now and have never had a problem with it.

I use the Logitech Attack 3 stick which is great for everything and allows you to customize which buttons do what which helps you remember. So far it has been great!

I have used Logitech Extreme 3D PRO for years. It has 12 programable buttons. I like using buttons 3 and 4 for for differential braking and they can be used simultaneously with the thumb. Perhaps the twist action for the rudder axis takes a while to adjust to, but in the absence of Rudder pedals, this works fine. I am right-handed and have wondered if this joystick would be a problem for a left-handed person.

Thanks all for the suggestions =D...seems like logitech is a good choice....

    Heya,

I really suggest you look at getting a yoke. Its so much better than a joystick if you plan on flying any civ aircraft.

    Why? Glad you asked.

Most joysticks are for right handers. Which is a problem cause you want to leave at least one hand free to change throttle. I am right handed and place my throttle on the right side, which means on any normal joystick I cant use the throttle unless I place it on the left hand side... which feels really strange and doesnt match to what you see in the cockpit of most planes in FSX.

With a yoke you can fly with your left hand (and reach the trim dials with the thumb) while keeping the right hand free to work the throttles. Something like a CH eclipse yoke would fit the bill.

Of course this is much more expensive than just buying something like a HOTAS saitek x52 which would allow you to do the same thing really. However if you want realism...
