Thread: Grass textures

  1. Default Grass textures

Are the photoreal grass textures by Diego Varela Rodriguez in the file library today worth having?

    Thanks for any views.

I'm afraid it may screw up with AFCAD or ADE9X overlapped or scenery conflicts with new scenery installed recently. I don't know. It's too big bytes in HD for my FS folder. lol

Theoretically it should not interfere with AFCAD's or any airports.
It's designed & tested to blend in with your existing scenery, it only replaces grass at airports and else where needed,
without destructing the rest of the world textures. I use it combined with UTEurope, Night Environment, FScene for FS2004, FSGlobal 2010 and everything goes hand in hand together.

    Good Luck!

I downloaded and installed Diego’s textures. The textures themselves are pretty nice.
However, there are some problems associated with how FS2004 uses them. The default detail1.bmp file is a neutral gray texture and appears to give a textured “grassy” feel to the other textures it blends with. Diego’s textures are all green variations (except winter) so there is no blending. When flying, everything is that color green . In winter there is also that color, so if you choose to use the textures you need to change them manually with the seasons. I think that green coloration, although not boring, is a little too artificial for my tastes. So I’ll stick with the default for now. The instructions are very good, so if you do install and back everything up as you go, you can replace the original default files if needed. I took out the default detail1.bmp file, saved it, and used it to restore the setup.

I tried these ground texture files and most of them seem very unrealistic to me. Try the ground textures included in hdev2.zip by Pablo Diaz. They look pretty good and the color changes with the season and geographical area. It includes replacement clouds and sky colors as well, but you only need to install what you want.

I use the PicNic 1.0 grass texture software by Leclercq Aime. For me, it works the best of anything outside of the FlightZone(FS9) and Orbx FTX (FSX) scenery package series.

Look for file names: picnic10.zip ...and if you're experiencing interface issues with FSX, get file picintrp.zip to correct it.
