Yeah just put that entry at the end of each aircraft paint entry. Better yet look for FS9 Configurator by Ken Salter at AVSIM and it will make the entries for all your aircraft with a few clicks.

I'll never get my kicks out of flying into buildings but I do like having the damage on to intensify the realism when a failure occurs.

    Hi,
You may already know about this one. Not sure if it works ok. I haven't tried it, yet.

  3. Default Oops

I made a boo-boo. I added the visual_damage=1 to the fs9.cfg by mistake. Thanks for the clarification, and all the replies.

    Regards,

    Elmerfudd

    Edit:

It works. I must be getting soft in the head. I went to add this to my FS8 C172 as well, and found that it was already there, and had been since 2007. I just plumb forgot.

    Thanks again, for the help.

    Regards,

    Elmerfudd

Note - visual_damage=1 only works if the aircraft has damage files, otherwise it does nothing. Many aircraft have no damage files.

Right, that makes perfect sense. I dunno how I could have forgotten about this. Maybe I should start using the nic 'Daffy".

I have downloaded aircraft with amazing crash effects, but without the visual_damage=1 line. I had to add it on my own. One thing that I like about this effect is that when I crash into a tree or a building, insted of freezing, the sim displays the destroyed aircraft falling in flames... thats way much better.

There's also a thread at the FSX forum about damage, I dunno if some of it also applies to FS2004 planes.
Nice video there of a Spitfire crash landing to show what we want in FS2004/FSX..
