    Default Malicious Silverlight Update?

Yesterday when I went to the Flight Page, to check out the new plane hint, I got the popup in the picture and thought it ODD! I've NEVER seen an MS update popup before, so, I then went to Control Panel/Windows Update, ran the check for updates, and it says I'm up to date. I included a shot of it's message in the original screenie.

Anyone have an idea of what this is? I certainly am not clicking on a popup to allow any changes...Don

Is not malicious. There are two security updates for Sliverlight. Suggest you click on the Find out more in the lower box that saids Get updates for other Microsoft products. It will show up then.

If you have Hidden that update in the past, then Windows Update will not present the option in the future. The same is true if you Hid the orginal install of Silverlight.
    Thanks,

    Jim

IvanOhio has the answer with the get updates for other MS software. With this enabled you should see SilverLight updates appear in the Windows Update list.

Off topic, but what exactly is Silverlight? Frankly, to me it's precisely the barrier that prevents me from giving MS Flight even a casual glance. I hate bloatware with a passion and from my perception that's all Silverlight really is. I haven't even looked at the preview screenshots for Flight because of this requirement. Nothing tells you what it is exactly, just "click here to install Silverlight" - it may as well say "click her to install trojan.hybris,b" in my opinion, I'm not installing anything if they can't even tell you what it is...

SilverLight is Microsoft's equivalent of Adobe's Flash plug-in.

Lol, it took you eight words to tell me what I've been trying to figure out from MS for two years .

    Thanks,

That's not very surprising. Microsoft is not very good at marketing. Wikipedia is usually a good place to start when one has computer or technology related questions.

Thanks for the replies guys. Still at a, a, a, a, loss!
Checking for Important, Recommended, and MS products updates are enabled, but, automatic downloading and installation is not.
    I like to see what's being dl/installed.

Silverlight is already installed and has the two security updates that I'm aware of.
Security Update for Microsoft Silverlight (KB2690729)
Security Update for Microsoft Silverlight (KB2636927)

All of my "hidden" updates are for Office 2003 or 2007 Suites, IE9, and the Bing Desktop, which are not installed.

The only thing not selected is Software notifications. Weirdness reigns with MS...Don

Glad to help with what I could.

I am the same way with the updates or any other software download, like to know what is being installed.

The updates in Windows is that necessary evil to keep it secure and running properly.
