    Default Question about setting the .cfg files for aircraft/panel & others

    Hi!!! A Good day for all Senior Members of Flightsim.com

    I have some question regarding the aircraft engines and speed output ratio shown on the Fight Director and IECAS panels.

    Firstly I have a Airbus a321 (from Project Airbus) & a a340-600 (from Project Opensky) By Sir Thomas. The difference of their IECAS are the engine output display. When I throttle up the a321 (Project Airbus) to full thrust, the N1 speed will be around 93% but for the a340-600 (Project Opensky) will be over 100% which already in a state that engines stressing up in reality. I have try to make some research via website and found out that one of the solution is to re-configuration the panel or aircraft .cfg files in order the engine status to work as real as in reality... So, how do I really modify the .cfg files?

    Second is about the speed vs engine thrust output.... Compare the 2 different aircraft of my a321 and the one on youtube's, I just realize that... for my aircraft when it's at 34,000 ft and auto-thrust setting for 0.74 Mach, my engine speed for N1 will be around 80% and above but for the ones on the youtube is only around 70%??? Can anyone please explain what's going on with this engine speed settings? Ah... and also the rate of fuel flow and consume by the engines settings?

    Third.... is about the aircraft balancing during cruising speed & altitude. I have a problem of the aircraft balancing which always stay on 5 to 10 degree with auto-pilot settings for speed 0.80 Mach & Altitude of 35,000 ft.... So what should I do to make it stay at 0 degree at cruising status?

    I'm very very sorry to list out so many basic question of the aircraft as I have no idea how to really solve the problems... please do help me out!! Thank you very much!! Your help are very very appropriate~

    Best Regards
    Shan

    N1 vs N2 vs Throttle position is in the *.air file. Unless you are well versed in tuning *.air files you can't simply change that.

    For Speed vs N1 you can tweak the Engine's thrust in the aircraft.cfg:
    [TurbineEngineData]
    ...
    static_thrust = 29500
    And/Or
    [jet_engine]
    thrust_scalar = 1.0

    That will shift the thrust + - across the entire curve, so it will have an affect on take-off distance and climb performance too.
    **********************
    You would never see 0 degree at 0.80 Mach & Altitude of 35,000 ft in the real world either.
    The air is too thin and requires a higher angle of attack to maintain lift.

    **********************
    Fuel flow can be trimmed in the aircraft.cfg also:
    [GeneralEngineData]
    ...
    fuel_flow_scalar = 1
    And/Or
    [TurbineEngineData]
    ...
    ThrustSpecificFuelConsumption = 0.370

    Hi again!!!

    Hmm... what should I do to access the *.air file? Is it this .air file > TomA333.air ???? How do you access into the file and reconfig it??? Can you please describe it more details...? because I do wanna learn how to really tune up my aircraft to perfect.... please~

    Below is my config of config.cfg for my a330-300 RR.... I still can't really figure out the setting number value of fuel flow gain, inlet area, rated N2 rpm and so on.... do you have any manual for how to set those value's correctly???

    [TurbineEngineData]
    fuel_flow_gain = 0.002 //Gain on fuel flow
    inlet_area = 93.0 //Square Feet, engine nacelle inlet area
    rated_N2_rpm = 29920 //RPM, second stage compressor rated value
    static_thrust = 70000 //Lbs, max rated static thrust at Sea Level
    afterburner_available = 0 //Afterburner available?
    reverser_available = 1 //Thrust reverser available?

    FS Airfile Editors and Design AirEd is a quickie editor, but will not allow direct editing of most Graphic style tables. Aircraft Airfile Manager(AAM)V2.2 is a little more descriptive and will allow direct editing, but, BIG BUT, AAM V2.2 will not allow "Save As". It does save a renamed backup though. That just makes it difficult to change things one at a time and have seperate descriptively named iterations to test.

    Fooling around with *.air files takes a lot of patience. Make ONE change and test.
    There are lots of interactions in the *.air file, and more than one change will not tell you what specifically gives a certain result.

    The only things to edit and properly adjust for fuel flow are the two lines noted in my previous post.

    Make back-ups for any file you intend to edit. I guarantee you'll need them...Don

    Hi Sir Don~

    Really really thank you much for the help!!! If you don't mind at all... can you please teach me or explain me more about the AAM way settings??? I have search for many information on the AAM but still can't really find a tutorial about the correct number value to key inside the *.air file.

    I have also followed your instruction on downloading the [Aircraft Airfile Manager(AAM)V2.2] and currently have access into the aircraft *.air file. So right now what should I really do to config it so that the N1 VS N2 VS Throttle value & result can be changed till the engine can be performed just like in reality?? Ah and also... during start up.... I really dont know why the engines start up so quickly.... the engine power up VS the engine sound are totally out of sync... Some more, when the ignition is given, the engine suddenly quickly power up to 93% of N1 then slowly fall down to idle rate.... weird...

    Please do really teach me about it... Thank you very much!!!

    Currently I have the Airbus a340-600 RR from the Project Open Sky. Below is the jet engine information data value. And I have also attached the sample screen print of my current *.air file using the AAM to access it.

    Dear Isteroids,

    Well... base on google translate on your Arabic sentences... I understand that www.flightsim.com gave much more reliability and stability aircraft then other website provider... but base on my limited understanding between the simulator aircraft and the real world aircraft, the simulator aircraft which I have are not really in best or perfect stages... compare from those other user from youtube that I viewed.... their aircraft are far more realistic than mine in terms of engine performance, high texture and so on~ As an example, one of the project airbus a330 from Thomas Ruth that I downloaded from www.flightsim.com gave me an unexpected complete engine start-up to idle in just 10 seconds!!! But in reality? If I'm not wrong the start-up would took more then 20 seconds till the engines reach idle stage~

    That's why I really need someone to teach me about it... As I'm really very happy that Sir Don willing to use some of his time to explain me some basic settings of the FSX aircraft~ Thanks Sir Don!! hahah~

    Best Regards
    Shan

    I'm a little confused. I can't find an A340-600RR from Project Open Sky. The only decent A340-600 I'm aware of is the Thomas Ruth version. Is that the plane you are working on?

    I don't have the real world specs for what the N1 vs N2, or, N2 vs Throttle position is, but, many RW aircraft have throttle stops that are capable of pushing the engines far beyond safe, continuous use, RPM. It is up to the pilot to maintain engine parameters within thier published safe operating specifications.

    I only have a small bit of knowledge when it comes to *.air files. Just enough to make minor changes and live with the results.

    Editing flight dynamics is a huge undertaking, so read, experiment, and read some more! Take lots of notes.

    Your specific questions may be better answered there. I garnered most of what little I know by reading their posts...Don

    Jet engines are controlled by Tables 1502 through 1507 in the .air file as well as the variables in the .cfg file. The interaction is complex and not fully documented nor fully understood.

    As already suggested, you may get better guidance at FSDeveloper.
