Thread: FS2004 Canard Control Question

  1. Default

I am. Sorry about the delay, I'm actually not modeling planes currently. I see two things to explore.

    1. As someone suggested earlier there may be an entry in the .air file that allows you to reverse the action. I thought I remembered seeing a listing that was something like "is canard", but I could not see anything in the SDK. I have not done anything FS9 in years.

    2. Knowing that the numbers in the .cfg file won't affect the visual model you can fake it by positioning your elevator back behind the plane. Mirror your current position from the center of gravity.

Okay, based on your comment #2 - wouldn't I need to also mirror the wing location in order to keep the CG MOI's intact?

May I point you to what the FS2004 SDK states:
    [airplane_geometry] section
The airplane [airplane_geometry] section has been added mainly for use with the FSEDIT application and the ability to create a flight model from aircraft geometrical input. Although you can edit these values by hand here in the aircraft.cfg file, modification of SOME of these variables will have little to no effect on airplane performance, as the flight model aerodynamic coefficients are all still located in the [aircraft_title].air file. The FSEDIT program will change the aerodynamic coefficients in the .air file based on the values in this section (and others), but changing the values in the aircraft.cfg file WITHOUT running the FSEDIT application will result in little, if any, noticeable changes in aircraft behavior. Nonetheless, these values have been exposed for your convenience.
The situation is more extreme with FSX because many of the values in this section have no effect at all
